The wife and I went to Mike Thomphson's today and looked a the top of the line pushers. Well we were not impressed. For $350k I expected higher quality than what I saw. Mrs Achoy did like the extra room that the popout had. Has anyone modified their Bus with popouts? Roy |

All the lightest coaches are GM's that are monocoque , no place to chop holes with out the resources of Boeing design staff , tho it HAS been done. The heavier framed buses can have slideouts , the easiest being the Eagles that have no monocoque or semi monocoque construction. Slideouts add weight , noise and leaks , if you are needing the long term room a slideout adds , perhaps a high line 5 slideput 5th wheel would suit your living desirements. FF |

TRADE-OFFS. Everything is a trade-off. Slide-outs definitely give you more room, but the trade-off is more air, water, and dust leaks as well as the possibility of mechanical problems with the slide mechanism. For us, we felt we could do without the extra room and the potential problems. Just our way, YMMV Jack |

I am in the process of converting my old KW truck. I will use a 102" wide box. My current transit is also 102" wide. That extra 6" width makes a big difference. If you haven't bought a bus yet keep that in mind. Slide outs are about $12,000 each installed-so not for me. Good Luck, TomC |

I'm not a fan of investing in slideouts if you are converting a bus for the above mentioned reasons. For the same money, I stretched my bus 5' and gained the additional room that way. Just one person's personal opinion. |

My wife has wanted slides on our Eagle for years but we went on a trip with a friend that has 2 on a Eagle 15 (45L x 102 wide) that he had installed and they are nice when you are parked but with the two retracked he doesn't have much room to get around in bus,she hasn't said much lately about slides since (Message edited by luvrbus on September 05, 2008) |

When we did the Marathon tour during the BUSN'USA rally they said that the slides cost $75,000......Each! And their new model was coming out with 4 slides. Of course we are talking a whole nother world here. |

I have friends whose stick and staple RVs have slideouts. The only ones I would consider are to make the living room wider. However, the only way to make a slideout is to chop a big hole in the wall, thus weakening the structure. In sticks and staples, this doesn't matter -- they're already going to break up in an accident (so the salescritter says "Just don't have an accident!"). If you look in any RV forum, you will see thread after thread asking where to find someone to fix a slideout, or how to stop the whistling, or how to get it cranked back in with a broken whatever. If you have an Eagle or MCI, and you still want slides, call the RV scrapyards. Slides have been around long enough that some are showing up there, and maybe you can get a good deal. |

Le Roy As you can see, this is a very unslide crowd here and it is the only thing that causes maintenance. I put two in my Prevost, it did not weaken it, it does not leak, it goes back in without power if necessary, and it added 25% more room when out. Love them. I almost added 5' too like Larry did.
