__. Dunno is it's news to anyone else (or it matters) but Allstate just sent me a notice that they're not going to renew RV policies in NC. My policy (liability) expires at the end of the month. I know that a number of people in other states have Allstate RV Roadside Service Plans - dunno if this affects coverage for liability, the vehicle, or Roadside in other states.

Our insurance is through AOn, formerly RV Alliance which was fomerly Alexander & Alexander (shows how long we have used this company LOL). The underwriter is National Interstate. I have no idea how they compare with other agenies or underwriters, just who we use. Jack

I use State Farm for the cars and the Eagle, uh motorhome. Rates are pretty good, although I have not had any experience with any claims! ;-)

I called Progressive, stating that I wanted to move my "RV", personal car, and home insurance. The took the details on my "RV" and said no way.
I then called Geico (against my better judgment) who took 2 hours to take the details on my "1976 Daimler 33-foot motorhome" (actually, I was afraid that they'd use the "you didn't tell us that it was really a bus defense" so I told her all the details -- which she said, "I understand ... now, it's registered as a 'personal private vehicle' in NC and is not used in connection with business in any way, right? OK, it's a 33-foot Daimler motorhome") and get approval from the manager; but I walked away with a rate approx. $100 less per 6 mo's than Allstate's last policy (for both vehicles combined). The home policy is also much less with identical coverage.

As a former Insurance Broker.....I was told by AS several years ago...I was "an accident, waiting to happen"....all I needed to change to Hartford, and for the coach....Affinity ( now PROGRESSIVE, I THINK)....been with both for many years now.

Would suggest that you go back to Progressive...different agent. ( mine is in the State of Washington, since 2001; I'm in New Mexico). Ask for Liability and Medical coverage...NO Comprehensive or Collision.

I have used GMAC, formerly National General, for two conversions without any problem. They give liability right off, but require an appraisal for comp/coll.

I have been with State Farm for over 40 years and no problems. We have had claims including a rollover in our Explorer and never a problem settleing anything. I have the bus, cars and home owners with them. Rates are better then most from what I see as well.

I called my local Progressive agent who I have my other vehicles insured through and they started coverage on the bus with only the model and serial number over the phone. (liability coverage is all I wanted)
The bus was not even in my name at the time. I did scan the title and registration and sent them to her via e-mail. The only question she asked was if it was for personal use as an RV.

__. I am 60 this year. No tickets, one accident (hit by drunk driver - no fault of mine) in past 20 years, own bus and car and home outright, no business use of any. I asked to move all my insurance to Progressive, starting with the bus (liability only). They refused outright.

__. Allstate dropped RV's in NC (according to their letter to me) because the NC legislature required them to "pool" the risk on RV's with other insurance companies. Maybe Progressive is fine with other states but won't write new RV policies in NC. A friend in PA with a bus very similar to mine has Progressive.

__. I don't know any more than that, but they flatly refused my application.

__. No, I live in the most over-taxed and over-regulated Southern state! Starting in the '50's, NC took the lead is nit-picking the insurance companies about every little thing that they do. Some of the rate regulation trickles down to the real people, but now it's mostly bureaucrats chewing up every meal for the third time to assure their jobs, etc.

__. The best insurance companies, being in businees to made a profit and not be effed around by a bunch of gummint employees, decided that they'd leave NC to the other companies. If you can find a company to insure you in NC, you can hear the agent grinding their teeth on the other end of the phone.

__. Dah gummint takes my money and protects me.

I lived in North Carolina for 45 years. I sure would like to have the rates that I had there now. NC controls the rates that insurance co. charge in the state. That is why lots of Co. don't sell in NC. I am now in the great state of Florida where the rates are twice as much as they were in NC.
Florida has no fault insurance and It cost the people that do buy insurance lots more money.

I too had the bus with what was A&A, great price, no claims. Not insured now because of non-use, due to apart.
Had cars and 27' MH with State Farm for years, loved them until I said something to a friend who had Farmers. $300.00 less per 6 months on a 2 year old Dodge Cummins 4by, with 300/500 liability, and a lot of other high limit uninsured motorist coverage, etc.
WATCH OUT FOR PROGRESSIVE, they will bend you over if you don't ask for a competitive quote!!
My opinion of them, after what they tried to do to me can't be printed here! (Or anywhere else in polite company.) I have written proof of the quote, and its no mistake.
Class A Commercial Lic, last at fault accident was at age 17, and yeah, that was 43 years ago.

Although I mentioned we are with progressive on the bus we did not call progressive directly. I used the link on this site for RV America Insurance and they worked out the best coverage which happened to be with progressive

Bruce -

In Florida, all our vehicle insurance is with Progressive, bus included.

But let me add this..... when I attempted to insure my Ford 7.3 diesel van,
they initially refused. The agent said they don't insure commercial vehicles.

I told her that it's not a "commercial vehicle". And.... that although it's a
1 ton rated vehicle, I plan to convert it into an RV. And.... they already
insure buses that are (or will be), converted into RVs; they insure my
incomplete bus, so there's no reason to deny my van.

And.... again they refused.

So I asked my agent to try one more time, since I want to have all
my vehicles insured by the same company...... -and the same agent-.

Progressive insured it.

Youse just hafta' be persistent!
