What has it cost to raise a roof? Just as "IS" has a bunch of meanings , so does "COST." Cost in reduced fuel milage? Cost in extra wander in cross winds? Cost in reduced number of town roads with clearance? Cost of extra weight , and usually new windows? Which cost is of concern? FF |

If you're tall (I'm 6'3") then a normal 4106 would be a constant head banger especially if you have roof A/C's. Then the cost of NOT raising would be alot of pain killers. Good Luck, TomC |

Some skoolies have great headroom , at the coat of bays. Perhaps some transits too, same hassle. Interseting in Fl one "converter" ( Child molester too) was raising the roof of GM's about 1.5 to 2 ft! Seems strange but the eyes picked up the extra volume and it was almost as "roomy" as with a slideout , with none of the structural hassles. Its a straight forward job , but a set of measurements , and NOT driving the cut in half coach around will help the wheels stay in line. Who would put Carbunkles on a \FINE looking coach , with huge space in the old AC evap section for a quiet basement setup? FF |

We raised the roof of our MC-8 8". We then lowered the interior ceiling 5" for a net gain of 3". The 5" space houses our AC duct and eletrical conduit. The rest of this space is filled wil foam insulation giving us an R 30-35 ceiling insulation. We did our own roof raise, so cost of material was our only expense. We drove our bus for about 1 year before we did the roof raise. We noticed no difference in fuel mileaqe or handling after the roof raise. We had planned to replace OEM windows with RV type windows anyway, so this was not an added expense of the roof raise. We do watch overhead clearances, but have never had to alter our route or back-up due to clearance problems (we have not traveled in the Northeast, where there seem to be many more low overhead situations). We have a basement AC, so the highest obstruction on our coach is the Sat antenna which, in the lowered travel postion is 8 1/2". Jack |
