In the trucking industry, the terms are interchangeable, so lots of bus folk use them, too. RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

Spring brakes are not the same as Maxi-brakes, irregardless of trucking industry venacular. They don't even operate the same. Quite often you hear of Maxi's letting go with air loss on parking. Can't happen w/ a spring brake without a mechanical failure; takes air to release it by overcoming the spring. Maxi's are a no-no, not even manufactured for road use any longer and actually outlawed in some jurisdictions. |

The brake system that spawned the question won't release with air loss; must be a case of the old terminology being applied. Thanks, JME |

"maxi brakes" is a trade name that mack trucks used when they introduced their version of the "spring over air brake" and im going to go out on a limb and say that mack was the first truck to use a spring over air brake |

Lin, Thats funny! My 4106 has Mini Max cans. I was told by the seller that they are spring breaks. Does any one know about this product? |

Joe, We installed mini-max brakes on the 4106 we owned back in the late 80's. They were a spring brake that was physically smaller than the other spring brakes. This allowed them to fit on the 4106 without any modifications. I have heard that the company has since gone out of business. Jack |
