Over the weekend on a 5 hr run to killien TX the whole coach started to vibrate. I pulled over checked things out.Saw nothing.Proceded slowly to the camp 50 miles away. The next morning I found that the harmonic balancer behind the radiator fan had lots of play in it.I am going back tomorrow night with a 600lb touque wrench/pullies and a new balancer.I have had problems identifing the correct balancer. So Im taking one with liquid runnig inside and one a little smaller with finns and rubber mounted half way up .My balancer looks nothing like either one of these.I hope its an upgrade. If any one has any input it would be appriciated John |

the harmonic balancer is a very tricky thing to play with be sure that youREALLY know what you are doing when you play with it as they are the main reason that there are so many broken crank shafts out there. this is a job for your detroit man to do or a real good shop man that knows what he is doing and not just saying that he can fix that thing. a fellow that has a g.m. had his buddy tell him that oh i know how to change that and $7000. later the guy say oh that is how it goes. it broke the crank when he fixed it. nice buddy..mel 4104 |

Mel I appreciate your input. The problem with the 671 is that DDA made so many modifications.I now know my damper is obsolete and they now say above 1800 rpm you need to install a liquid filled damper. John |
