Hey All
Well by now you all know I don't know my colon from my ceranium about Gens. Got another line on a Titan Industrial High Performance 8500 Gen Anybody heard of them ? Think it would perform in a confined space? The guy only wants 2500 for it so I think it's a good deal. Am I wrong?

My neighbor here in Quartzsite bought one 2 years ago 33 hrs on it and it's toast. No support for it at all yet so he has about a 300 lb paper weight. He's a retired attorney so this is getting interesting. I'm betting the dealer refunds the money. But do it your way.

Doug,
The name on the generator tells the whole story.
Titan INDUSTRIAL isn't Titan RECREATIONAL VEHICLE, as in compartment mounted.
Any generator that is not specifically made for operation in a compartment will overheat itself, and the compartment quickly.

As Larry mentions directly above, these are mostly sold by "traveling salesmen," with no support or service network. When and if your Onan quits, you can find a dealer in the local yellow pages, and he'll either have parts, or can get them shipped the same day.

I have looked at their web site, listing one dealer in South Carolina, and NO Country of manufacture, which should send alarms by itself. The Wattage and Amperage ratings listed do not correspond, 8000 Watts corresponds to about 66 Amps at 120 Volts, not 20 Amps as listed.

All of their pictures show wheel-mounted (roll-around) construction generators, with the gas tank mounted on top. This type of generator, by any manufacturer, CAN NEVER BE USED IN A COMPARTMENT.

RUN

George

Doug save your $$$ and contact Wrico International, talk to Dick or Justin. The support issue is huge when buying installing and maintaining a gen set. We have gone without a gen set since 96 waiting to get the "Wright" one. The guys in Leesburg Fla(powertech) were nice to talk to also we stopped in and saw their place and they had some suggestions and they have the support. I also talked to the guys in charlotte NC but never got a chance to stop in but they also talked and had suggestions. If you are going to travel you cant go wrong with the Kubota diesel units. my 3 cents worth. If you are really patient you might can find a used unit. They are the first thing pulled out of a coach when it has to be let go.

If you don't live in HE** or south Texas , in other words don't need people refrigeration 24/7 , you might contemplate the Honda RV Propane unit , or a used OHNO propane unit.

Far less work to PM the unit , maintain the unit , and loads less NOISE! to mask than any diesel noisemaker.

The advantage of propane is anyone can keep it running , even a used 35 year old set.

And the fuel doesn't go bad like gasoline (30days) or diesel more slowly does.
