managed to find a set of rear view mirrors -- electrically controlled and maybe even heated at the Arcadia rally a few years ago. I just might find time to install them before heading to FL again this winter.

Eventually guess I could figure out which wire does what (a wireing diagram would be nice) but what I would really like to find is a source for the control switches to select either mirror and move it -- any suggestions of a place to look would be appreciated. These mirrors have both flat and convex mirrors on them

Thanks - -Jerry

Jerry,
Are they Ramco mirrors that Ray Cox was selling? If so, they are the same as the ones I bought from him. Go to Ramco's website http://www.ramco-eng.com and call the phone number listed at the bottom of the page. They will email or FAX you a wiring diagram.
After trying to adapt several switches, we ended up purchasing switches from Ramco. If both flat and convex mirrors are remote, you will need 2 switches (one for each mirror). We used a standard SPST switch for the heated aspect of the mirrors. A tip: wire the heater switch through the ignition and/or add an indicator light. It is very easy to leave this on. Jack

I'd get around to the local wrecking yard and lift the switches from the right automobile.

Okay, you guys....

What makes and models of your cars has the right kind of switches to steal for this busnut???

There's a slick rotating knob one mounted in the arm rest in a 91 Mercury Grand Marquis, you'll need two, one for each two part mirror...

happy coaching!

My son installed a set of Ramco mirrors on a S&S motorhome for a customer and used the electric mirror control from a 95 Dodge RAM pickup. This style of control is a single knob that rotates clockwise or counterclockwise to select the mirror to be adjusted. It is then moved like a joystick to adjust each mirror. A single mounting hole is all that is required.

Having had both, I much prefer having separate switches for each mirror rather than the single switch and the toggle between mirrors.

Most 1994 to 2000 caddilac devilles or dts models have a joystick control on the drivers door that you rotate the knob left or right adjusting the mirrors then turn the joystick knob to centre so you don't accidently move a mirror.

Each Ramco switch has a small knob that rotates about 90 degrees. This determines whether you will adjust then flat or convex mirror. The knob is then moved as a joystick to adjust that mirror. So, 1 switch per mirror. Jack

speaking of Ramco. Does anyone know first off if Ramco has a working web site where you can search for Arms?
Also I ran into a source that has new Ramco mirror heads I believe the number is 9000R at a pretty good price. The bottom part is remote where the upper is manual. At $200.00 a pair, is it worth locating the arms or will it get into bigger money?

Thanks
Ace... still here and going nowhere!

Ace,
I called the phone number on the bottom of the Ramco home page. I purchased a long arm for our driver's side ramco mirror. The arm I purchased was a 15" and was only finished in primer. I don't remeber the price, but it I considered it a little pricy (but I needed it to install the mirror in a position that would work for me. Jack

hi jerry

you will need two switch sets. my mirrors are also flat mains with seperate lower convex. also, with heating elements. although mine are the velvac brand, if would be surprising if the wiring method is any different.

you must decide your preference of mirror
function via each switch set.

"a" preference) set #1 to operate main driver or passenger @ left or right switch selection. set #2 to operate convex driver or passenger @ left or right switch selection.

"b" preference) set #1 to operate main @ left switch selection and convex @ right selection on drivers side. set #2 to operate main @ left selection and convex @ right selection on passenger side.

you actually have two sets of mirrors thus, the requirement for two sets of switches. chrysler switch sets were my choice from the salvage yard however, there are a multitude of selections which will work fine. a completely seperate swithing device should be used for the heating elements. Jack is correct, the heating function is easy to leave on for too long a time without some form of reminder and/or shut-off protection.

if you would like my schematic as to how they were wired up, just drop me an e mail or my cell is 931 247 3060.

Jack,

How well did the arms fit the contour of the coach?

Our brackets matched the corner contour very closely. We installed them against the bottom of the trim strip that wraps across the front of the bus below the windshield. If I was doing it again, I would cut the trim stip and install the mirrors with the top of the bracket even with the top of the trim strip.I plan to replace the 3 bolts with flathead, allen wrench style SS bolts as well as add the 4th bolt. finally at least took a quick look at the mirrors -- they have a flat lower and convex upper, 9 wire cable coming out of bottom, just green prime painted, and a cast in emblem on the front facing side that kind of looks like a dove or some bird but think a vaguely remember it as maybe some bus brand. Going to be another week before I even get to look at them again. Thanks to one of you for providing a wireing diagram but don't think it is for this brand.

Our Ramco mirrors are 9 wire with a flat upper and convex lower. The "dove" is the Bluebird Logo (they were made for Bluebird Wanderlodges). Our mirrors had the same logo on them. We covered the logo with a stick-on amber reflector.
On our mirrors the wires are as follows:
1 Black Positive, Heater
2 White Negative, Heater
3 Red Up & Down, Flat Glass
4 Green Up & Down, Convex Glass
5 Brown Left & Right, Flat Glass
6 Yellow Left & Right, Convex Glass
7 Orange Common, Flat Glass
8 Blue Common, Convex Glass
9 Purple ??12 volt positive??

These are the Mirrors I'm looking to get. They don't have the amrs but I'm hoping I can find arms similar to what I already have which are only 12 1/2 inches long overall or 10 1/2 inches center to center.

If I can get these, they are only 200 bucks for the pair which I feel is pretty good!
Any comments?

Ace

Ace,

I have the Ramcos, but my small and large mirror are built into one head. The large mirror moves and the bottom(convex) is manual only. I have never seen the small mirror on top.

Were these originally hung upside down?

Cliff I don't know if they were designed to be upside down or not. Now that you mention it, I'm confused! Maybe I will have to look at some newer high end coaches to see just how they are. I haven't bought these yet but the guy is asking when I will. I want to be sure they will work first!

Yea that's what I thought but then Cliff kind of confused me! I had to go look at some pics of coaches and sure enough they have the Ramco mirrors just like the ones I'm getting!
I hope I'm not getting stiffed as I'm buying these sight unseen from a guy on Craigslist. He sort of hounded me to make up my mind and I finally did, sent him the money via PayPal but now I'm getting no response to me emails! I DO have a phone number and an address so maybe he's just busy or out of town! I'll wait and see! Heck it's only 200 bucks so if I get taken, at least it's not 1000's! :-)

Hey guys, I received my Ramco mirrors today and they appear to be slightly different than they were described. First of all, they are a little scratched on the back side but nothing I can't live with. It surely doesn't show scratches in the pic was sent. Second, they were described as being SS, NOT CHROME! These are chrome and not SS. They appear to be plastic. None the less, still a good looking mirror and remote too. Now to find some good matching arms!
