We went to Bryson City this past weekend for a sing at Rockledge Music Park. We had a good trip, first time in the hills with or MC9. It has 8v71n with ht740 we pulled the hill at Gold City between Franklin and Sylvia at about 15-20 it want to shift but the would have to shift back after only a few seconds. Had no heat problems it ran cool. That is a 7% grade if my memory is correct. The small road to the park is about 5 miles it has some big pull, not shure the % big greater than 7% we got down to about 10mph on them. We are still working on conversion the int. is 95% complete setup for 8 people to ride and sleep with full size refig. We carry about 2000 lbs of sound equipment and product and 8 people ave about 200 lbs each. I wander is this about right for that pull? It seem to do good only smoke just before down shift and it was black no smoke when toped out in first in the pull. Our 4104 pulled it toped out in 2 but with less equipment wieght by about 750 lbs. 6-71n 4 spd. |

Sounds just about right according to my experience in WVa on 7% grades. I've got the same set up in my Eagle (8v71/Ht740) so on the long pulls I'd just settle-in in 1st gear, throttle back and run at 15-18 mph. I'm pulling almost 50,000 lbs. with a 34' trailer. Down in 2nd with the jake on at about 22-25 mph. Life is good!!! and slow! dg |

Jason, welcome to our part of Heaven. We're in Franklin and had we known you were coming we'd have rolled out the Red Carpet on 441! We have a local group called Blue Ridge, who you might have heard of, and they drive a 45' Eagle. Sorry we missed you,,Bryson City isn't that far away. Please let us know when you're passing through our mountains again. NCbob |

Bob I will post when we are coming back that way. They are suppose to let us know something about next year. They said that they are planing to try to have a Campmeeting weekend but not sure about the dates for next year yet. Doyle thanks for the info not sure the exact wieght of our unit but I am going to weigh it soon. The engine uses more oil than I feel it should but we had a shop to fix the oil cooler and they refilled with rotella 15/40 before it had rotella sae 40 and is going to be change back to sae 40. I told the guy at the shop when I went to pick it up that they had to change it but they refused so I am going to. He said that it was not a problem, but I have been told NEVER EVER!!! run split wieght in a 2 stoke DD. So that takes that shop out of the phone book for me. |

Hey Jason, The pull you made up the mountain is about right. Our group has a 1984 MC-9 with a Alison 740, and it does about the same thing. We run up through there 3 or 4 times a year. Next time you're up this way, shoot me a e-mail ahead of time. It's listed on our website ...www.tlmmusic.com Glenn Vining Tallulah Falls, GA |
