Is a slideout possible to do on an MCI (MC9)? If so, is the extra cost justifiable?

Thanks for your input.

Anything's possible if you throw enough cash at it.

Justifiable?? Only YOU can determine that.

Cutting a hole in the side of an MCI or GMC is like cutting a hole in the side of a beer can - the exterior skin is the major portion of the chassis, so if you want to weaken it, go ahead.

Be prepared to live with additional wind noise, water leaks, binding extend/retract mechanisms, stained floors, rattles. . . the list goes on.

Talk to some stick 'n staple folk about the problems they've had with their slides to see if it's something you want to put up with. . .

Thanks for your reply, RJ. It doesn't seem like such a good idea.

We had 2 slides in our Fleetwood 36 foot motorhome. They brought us some real joys. Like having the hydraulic system fail and the 13 foot long living room slide going all the way out on a curve on narrow twisty Highway 101 on the Oregon coast. Or having the bedroom slide go out and drop down, cracking the fiberglass side of the RV. Or the bedtroom slide failing and dumping hydraulic fluid all over the bedroom carpet. Did I mention the bugs that came in around the slide seals? In 18 months we had 14 major failures to our slide room system. Any wonder we dumped that lemon and bought a bus? One thing to remember too is that while a slide gives you extra room when extended and parked, it takes away interior space when not in use. When cranked in, many slides will reduce your aisle space by 50 percent. Having fulltimed in a 36 foot RV with 2 slides for 2 1/2 years and now in a 40 foot bus with no slides for about 4 months, we don't miss slides at all.

I have spent a little time in my friends RV which has a slide and it sure does make it bigger inside! But I would never put one in my bus. However, I have just completed the first design phase a geo-dome that can be put up when you plan on staying somewhere for a couple of days. It will add 170 sq ft (or more) of living space and will collapse & pack to 4 sq ft. If you're interested, send me an e-mail and I'll send you a preliminary drawing. Joe 4106-2119
