This was a painful experience: Pulled the bonnet on my dog-nose forward--the restraint cable broke, & the darn thing almost knocked me silly! OUCH, fiberglass is heavy! Used a bunch of unprintable words--half at the bus, half at my wife, who was practically falling over laughing at my Laurel & Hardy moment. Got a "new" cable at a junkyard cheap ($10), so that's fixed.

New 460 almost ready--machine shop waiting on parts (new harmonic balancer). I'm ditching the weird front-mount system for side mounts (frame has both, my brackets were $20 at a self-serve junkyard). Intake (Edelbrock Performer) & carb (500cfm Holley spread-bore) are in the garage waiting--the engine should be in by early August.

Found out it only holds about 25 gallons of gas. :( Not nearly enough at 6MPG! I found a tank from a similar bus (1985 Ford B-600/ThomasBuilt dog-nose, 429/auto, T-boned just ahead of left-rear wheels) that holds 50 gallons, but I have a question: are private coaches subject to fuel taxes (over 45 gallons requires an IFTA tag, I was told)? If so, I might just live with 25 gallons.

Gray water tank aquired--120 gallons--from an RV place that was throwing it away ($25 bribe to the mechanic). It doesn't leak (though it certainly STINKS--Clorox time!), & looks pretty much new except for being scraped up a bit.

Bus windows gone (except first one on each side), covered over, primed (to prevent rust), RV windows installed. Having a friend who is an experienced welder owing you $300 is a wonderful thing. :)

Plumbing (water & propane) planning in progress--though stalled until I make up my mind where I want the tanks (am I the only one who can't decide for certain here?).

Discovered a cracked leaf in the right rear--not the main leaf, thankfully, & I'm replacing them anyway. At least now I know why it's not quite level.

Replaced front shoes, drums, & all hardware--more exemplary maintainence (NOT!) displayed by the several missing springs & the mismatched (1 new, other turned to--actually PAST--maximum diameter)drums. New shoes & hardware, junkyard drums (turned to the same size)--stops much better now.

Rear heater repaired--loose ground at heater, easily fixed.

As to fuel tank size- No matter what it holds there is no fuel tax (IFTA) requirements for an RV. Totally exempt. And IFTA only applies to diesel vehicles. Put what you want, but put it in a safe place and install it well. This is not a place you need problems.

I've seen IFTA tags on gassers--in fact, the Ford L8000 soda truck I trained for a CDL on (460 gasser) had an IFTA tag.

Nice to knowe that RV's are exempt, though. :)

Tank is stock on a similar bus--I can use stock hardware.
