Are there states and provinces that have the 8v71 outlawed? Just wondering? Have to rebuild or replace and would like to know negs and pluses. Should I or should I go to a four stroke. If so what will fit without to many major modifications.
I have a 79 GMC if that makes any difference.

Murray,

There is no state the presently outlaws the old two strokers, however some are becoming a lot less tollerant of heavy smokers. New Jersey and California seem to be stressing it more than anyone else at present.
We run tour and charter coaches all over the country out of Minnesota, and we still have a lot of 8V-71s in our fleet.
To consider repowering a GMC with a newer style four stroke enging is one major undertaking, which will far out pace the value of the finished vehicle.
My suggestion would be to rebuild the 8V, and enjoy.
