Would any body use these radiators? I bought them from a fellow bus nut that said they were ok. http://s26.photobucket.com/albums/c109/quantum500/radiators/ |

Kirt, How many times do I have to tell you to Return Them To Me in the condition that your pictures state, and I will Refund your $400 Even though you POWER WASHED them with 1000psi.....??? [19 years old too] Or do you want me to pay for all the screw-ups you done in your whole life too? Nick- |

don't really want to get involved, but I looked at the pics at Mak in the locked thread. I don't think I would power wash a rad that was brand new. Power wash will strip the grain out of wood and would bend the fins on a rad. If I was going to use the rads as seen in the 1st pics I would probably soak them in something and then use a soft brush to clean then, then a hose to rinse them. IMHO working with old stuff requires tons of care and in the case of some items I buy new or rebuilt (windscreens, rads, mufflers etc...) as the scrap ones just aren't worth the trouble. I would chalk this one up to an expensive mistake, rebuild them and enjoy having nice fresh rads. p.s. If you can find a big rad builder/manufacturer in you area you may be able to rebuild these for less than Nick paid did his. Although actually I live around the corner from a rad factory that builds rads for city buses all over North America so maybe it's only around here that deals like that are possible. |

buyer beware, nick has offered the cash back, what else do you want , most of the recycled suppliers would tell you to return them in the condition you recieved them, not detroy them and then offer your money back, |

I don't generally comment on these issues but here I think I will. Nick has graciously offered to buy back what once were usable radiators and now are little more than scrap. Radiators in very good condition cost thousands; what did you expect for $400? I think you will find other bus nuts reluctant to sell you any used parts in the future. Len |

I agree with Len in his coments, You should just send them back as Nick has said he would refund you the $400 even though you power washed them. Most rad shops have tanks they dip the rad into to clean them then pressure test for leaks, There are very knowledgable men on this boad willing to give you great advise and help direct you to parts supliers but if you go and hange out dirty laundry when you have a problem with one after a while not to many will be as open to help out. What should I assume "really good shape" means? That is how they were described to me. Does anyone think that they where in "really good shape"? I was not going to name who I purchased them from either. I was after a unbiased opinion. I was not planning on naming names either. I have worked on heavy equipment all my life and have never had any problems using a pressure washer on radiators. I even warned Nick 24hrs a head of time that I was going to wash them to see how deep the corrosion went and take pictures. He didn't say a word. I don't see how wanting to be told the truth plays any part in degrading my character. One other thing that plays into this I spent $235 shipping one way. |

Unbiased opinion, I've seen someone destroy a radiator with a pressure washer befor, way too powerful for thin copper. But OK you went after the radiator with a pressure washer and decided that it was no good. Then as long as you were at it you decided to destroy the second one which may have been a good radiator!!! Now you want your money back?? The first radiator OK , difference of opinion, I thought it was a good radiator, you disagree. I would refund your money. When you went ahead and destroyed the second radiator, then it became your responsibility, no way would I give you your money back!! Also I had a minor problem with something new that I ordered from Nick, he ate the mistake, no questions asked. Jim |

I believe you were told what Nick's mechanic told him. I'm surprised that, especially in this day and age, that you did not ask for photos of these items before striking up a deal. I don't think it's up to the seller to refund shipping charges; further, I think it's mighty gracious of him to offer to refund your money, particularly following a high-pressure wash that appears to have resulted in the items being rendered totally unusable. Why would you "warn Nick" ahead of time about pressure washing and expect any sort of a reply; were they not 'your' radiators at that time?Personally, I would have had the rads professionally cleaned, tested and repaired if necessary. If I had bought these rads, and altered them in ANY way (including pressure washing), there is NO WAY I could get a refund, nor should I reasonably expect one. JMHO. Mark |

The most valuable part now are those bolt on tanks. Great start to a set of those new fangled dimpled rad cores... I'm jealous, the set out of my bus had soldered tanks, the used spares in the bus have the bolted tanks... Other than that, my comments would only serve to disrupt the pile out back of the barn, so I'll shut up.... happy coaching! buswarrior |

yikes! I guess I am not too bright... My bus came real filthy, and I power washed the radiators on my MCI 102a3. The fins didn't bend, but I did it from a distance, and they seem to be fine, but crap!, I wish I knew I wasn't supposed to. I had better read your postings, and make sure I don't make anymore potentially expensive mistakes. My last bus was really clean, so I didn't even have to consider it... |

Speaking up here, I ordered some items from Nick also one did not show (pilfered by the delivery people my guess) I called Nick he fixed it the original items took only 4 days to be delivered the 2nd delivery took 3 days, the Man stands behind his products! If you washed radiators with a 1000 psi power washer, I wouldn't return your money either! But that said Nick made the offer here and at the other board this week, "Stop the Slop"! |

a bad deal for both a simple photo before and this would not have happen,as far as power washing a radiator I do mine every time I wash the bus.I owned heavy equipment for 30 years and they were power washed sometimes 2 or 3 times a day depending on the project each service truck I owned was equipped with a power washer. He porbably tried to save money and I don't think a radiator shop would have tried to clean those looking at the photos.would I refund his money with the shipping you bet.the guy was looking for a unbiased opinion and he is not getting that.I wonder how many would have a different opinion on this if you did not know Nick was involed in it. Nick knows me well enough from the board that I don't take sides in these disputes and what happen here is between the two parties good luck you 2 (Message edited by luvrbus on November 19, 2008) (Message edited by luvrbus on November 19, 2008) |

When I wash my radiator, I first spray it with CLR to break up any calcium deposits from road grim. Then I rinse it with a garden hose with low pressure. Good Luck, TomC |

I had a break down on my gen set in the summer of 07. I put my dilema on this board and Nick came to our rescue and put us up for days while he and his family helped me out. He let me plug in to electricity and he and his dad helped me to repair the gen set. After all was done he did not charge me one dime for labor or electricity. This man is honest as the day is long. Thats my story and I am sticking to it. |

As normal service on the bus fleet I owned, we pressure washed the rads and A/C condensers all the time. For years. With no problem. You have to be reasonable about it and keep the proper distance, or....yes you will be combing out the fins. |

Good lesson; don't buy used radiators. Bite the bullet and have the ones you have recored. Yeah, I know that it is expensive, but you want a coach; expect to spend money. |

I say pull the tanks off of the radiators, which is what you wanted anyway, and sell the cores to the scrap man. The value will probably offset a good portion of the shipping cost. |

I want to apologize to Nick and all the busnuts for uncivil actions on my part. I did not take aim at Nick and was not trying to attack him. I only wanted a unbiased opinion. Sometimes what you want and what you get is 2 entirely different things. In the past Nick and everyone else had always treated me well. I do not want that to change. Hopefully I can put this behind me as a learning experience. I will be working on re-coring the radiators through the winter. If anybody has tips on finding a good deal on cores I would appreciate it. -Kirt |

Quantum Merlin...you should enter your coach brand and model on your on your profile. It's also nice to list a location, although some are sensitive to this. At least if you can list your state it is nice and useful. This way people in your general location might be helpful when you need something. I was going to add my opinion on the condition of the radiators, but didn't want to further a flame war, so I erased it before posting. |
