I'm looking for a new generator head in the 7.5 to 9.0 KW range. Anyone with experience in the Winco TB7200 Series at $950.00? Marathon's unit is the best, BUT the bloody thing weighs 350lbs,and is about the size of a 5 gallon bucket, so that's out. Whats' out there besides the 50 hour service life Chinese Junk. I don't need guesses or speculation, only real world experiences please. It is a V-belt ("B" size) drive unit, so 2 or 4 pole units will work. Hurricane Dolly's massive lightning storm fried my 7.5 KW LeRoi-Somer, but it's no longer available. The Isuzu diesel made it through with only the 12V. alternator and the fuel solenoid getting fried Cheers...JJ |

You might consider finding a competent shop that can rewind your generator. Len |

I would highly recommend the Marathon or the Seimans big end alternator. They are brushless with big bearings that will last the lifetime of the Isuzu engine. You can get a cheap alternator, or spend a bit more and get a really good one. For instance, I looked at an Apollo generator (independent converter mostly for sail boats) and he was using a Chinese 3600rpm alternator. I looked at the 8kw, he ran it with a 2400 watt load and the cooling air coming out of the alternator was almost hot enough to burn me. As compared to my 10kw Powertech that uses the big Siemans brushless alternator, I've put a 10kw load on it and the cooling air coming out of the alternator was just warm. A sure sign of alternator efficiency. Good Luck, TomC |

Len, they can't rewind a lump of copper. Tom, when you say 'big end" do you mean it is a single bearing unit that goes on the end of my drive motor? If so I can't use it due to space limitations. The generator must fit alongside engine. How about a model number if it is a two bearing type. The Marathon would be nice (money is not the problem) space to stuff it into is limited, unless I throw out the heat pump! If you haven't seen one up close you have no idea how huge and heavy it is. |
