Okay, 40 minutes on the phone to India for support to learn that I can not get distant networks (ABC, NBC, CBS, FOX etc. except in my local area (spot satelite) without cancelling my service; purchasing a receiver and getting new service. The Dot Head (errr... Dot Com) supervisor said that was the only option... is that the case? Is there some secret handshake, etc. if you have leased equipment? If I cancel Dish, all other options come into play. Input please.... best, most affordable option for sat TV (with commercial networks) for full-timer on the road? Thanks for the vent... blood pressure is back to at least 200/95 hehehehe! dg |

Over the years with cell phones and satellite I have discovered two things, no matter how good the deal looks do not take thier free equipment offers! They have you locked into a two year contract!! I buy my own equpiment, when I call and threaten to cancell service I tend to get a positve response. I have Dish Network, but not the local channels so cannot help. You might try rv.net you may get more input there. Typing dish network forums into your search bar might give you some help such as this. http://satellitetv.digitalinsurrection.com/dishnetwork/dish_network_forums.php Jim |

Hi Dolye, I think Dish has Distant Network Service just like DTV. DTV's site has a Vehicle affadavid form to fill out and you will recieve East/west network channels but, in most markets you get locals anyway... Good Luck Nick- |

I had to fill our that affidavit form, swearing on a bunch of holy scriptures, that I do indeed own an RV, and the box will be used only in that RV. A copy of the Registration and rights to your first-born, will also need to be turned over to "the company". We still have DirecTV, and kinda' love it. We get the "EAST-WEST" networks for an extra $10 per month, and we bought the "Total Choice Plus" package (for the Soaps Network channel), and a few extras. The package price was/is $66.96 plus tax. We own our box and dish. Go to any Goodwill or Salvation Army thrift store, and buy a box for peanuts. When you subscribe for service, they send you a card. Bahdah-bing / Bahdah-boom, you're watching TV.

500 channels and not a damn thing to watch! Nothing but ads, ads, ads. Only time there is any decent stuff to watch is during ratings weeks. Give you barely enough decent movies to keep from dropping the movie channels. Usually the better movies were run from a week before thanksgiving till the middle of February. Then garbage. Mow with HD tv, the ads will look even better! Anyway, DirecTV does offer those network feeds if you have an RV or live where you can document no local signal. Some bill was passed several years ago to require the offering of the local networks to make it fair for local broadcast companies. BS... you can get both local and national newspapers in your home town if you want them. OK I'm done ranting. |

Network feeds are not available from Dish Network directly. They are however available from https://www.mydistantnetworks.com/ and are broadcast over Dish network channels! |

I dunno that I would trust the guy who gets that $170 to actually provide a working unit. That's the problem with black market -- you're trusting someone to be honest when they steal for you! ;) OTOH, for what I will have to pay to get the 5 US channels and 2 Filipino channels that I actually want to watch, it would be tempting to try to track one of those guys down! |

Keith try typing "free to air tv" in your search bar. I know several people doing this with good results. My wife would also like the Philippino tv. settles with youtube stuff now. here is the Radio Natin (Manilla) on internet http://radyonatin.com/rn/index.php?id=PC34Daj7hy |

"Free to air"? I thought that was local TV stuff. I'm using Sprint for internet access, so can't do the streaming (wish I could find an aircard with unlimited bytes)! |

Okay, I found a list of FTA channels -- I guess my life has been incomplete without the Safeway Satellite Network! For only $400 in equipment, I can get all the lurid details about grape jam and specials on Hamburger Helper! Be still, my beating heart! ;) I don't think that this is the solution which I'm seeking . . . |

I'm amused at all this! One of the great enjoyments of busing around the country is to get away from the garbage on TV altogether. Watching the coming and going in a WalMart parking lot is more interesting than most TV shows. Peace and quiet is what I like. My 4104 had a TV when I got it but trying to get to work was such a pain that I removed it. Haven't looked back since. My wife has a portable DVD player she uses to watch a movie once in a while. I can't believe you guys are paying all that money for this stuff!! |

Bussin around the country was nice before diesel fuel cost 4.99/ gal. It is slow to drop here as they apparently want to keep the last nickel. It finally broke below 3.00 this week. Watching people in a WalMart parking lot is NOT interesting, but then again we're not from Arkansas. |

"Walmart traffic can be a bit like TV You got your Situation Comedies, Soaps, Dramas, Cops, but unfortunately NO Beauty Pageants" I don't know what WalMarts you have been to but I think I saw a beauty pageant outside one around here. There was an entire collection of young ladies wearing minimal clothing and promising to demonstrate mind-boggling talents. .... Oh, wait a minute, that might NOT have been a beauty pageant! |

Here in sunny Florida, it is common place to shop at wally world, especially when it is HOT. The sights that you see are not only mind boggling but, makes you wonder who told them they were even pretty let alone anything else. Men are included in this notation.LOL The mind really wonders,I mean wanders when this occurs. Gomer |

I'm amused at all this! One of the great enjoyments of busing around the country is to get away from the garbage on TV altogether. Local TV is useful to get a quickie weather forecast , sometimes its better to take the low road (and rain ) than the high road , (and snow). But Network TV , who needs it ? FF |

John, We Arkies are easy to please and don't take ourselves too seriously. We even witnessed an obvious affair taking place in an OR WM one time!! However, most scenes at WM are a step or two above the usual TV gargage and there are no stupid commercials. Weather can be found in the local newspaper which I usually read. Also, it can easily be found at the nearest restaurant TV or at the WM TV display. We got on the subject when I wondered how so much money could be spent on so little!! |

I spend more time with the computer, and on line, than with the TV set. Most shows don't interest me much, but it's nice to have the access, when I desire the access. Some "campers" spend their cash on fancy parking spots with amenities they never use, high priced super-deluxe cabinetry usually never found in an RV, or high-tech, expensive "self contained" electrical power....Or the most expensive tires money can buy.. I prefer to spend my cash on what my wife enjoys also. If she enjoys catching up on shows that interest her, then the amount for complete roadside TV programming is considered well spent. (It's actually a drop in the bucket, compared to all the other expenses) We've enjoyed the sights by day, but at night, it's nice to do the things we usually do at home. For us, the TV with complete programming, and computer with Internet access, is part of the whole picture. I'm sure I'm not alone with that... And I wouldn't denounce anyone for enjoying whatever it is that they enjoy. A true intellectual never limits his access to life's experiences. The TV isn't the "devils tool", as some may describe it. Unless of course, they just watch the FOX channel. Entertainment doesn't have to rise to one's intellectual capacity; sometimes a laugh, is just a laugh. |

"The TV isn't the "devils tool", as some may describe it." For kids under 6 it may be a source of reduced IQ and a lifetime inability to read or think." For adults the lack of interest in FOX the single non left wing channel , could be a sign of early TV viewing. Some folks can ONLY contemplate one point of view ,that agrees with their religion , THE STATE! These folks are the over the air TV watchers. FF |
