I very recently acquired a couple of 1990 Prevost XL's equipped with 6V92's and 6 speeds. That will have to be the subject of another post!!!!! Both were non runners supposedly, but I got one running and it suffers from detonation. Da Book suggests a couple of causes: (a) oil picked in the air stream (b) low coolant temperature (not likely, since it does it with the temperature at 170*F (c) Faulty injectors. Which in the humble opinion of our Detroit experts would be the likely source? I have not yet removed the turbo etc. to have a look inside the blower if oil is bypassing the seal. Awaiting your opinions, Joe. |

I'm no expert but have had this issue that was caused by a faulty injector. Have fun |

Check the color of the smoke coming out the exhaust. Chanches are: at idle if you have faulty injector or injectors, first it will burn the eyes, white smoke, will kinda puff at you. I had one that had white smoke and when you mashed the gas it would spit black and white. Gray smoke is oil not fuel tho. Just a thought Gomer |
