I had my 4905 serviced at a truck stop last week, and one more time they did not have a oil filter in stock. I had a spare, but a common spin on type would be much better. There are adapters for the older cars to use a spin on, is there such a thing for the 8v71?

YES Your local NAPA or DD store should be able to get one , about $75 from DD lots cheaper in a truck store or NAPA.

There worth the cost in engine wear as you can easily pre fill the spin on with lube oil & reduce the dry running time after the oil change.

Peter,

Fred is right on with the NAPA scource, they have the adapter, and the number is B 1303, the dealer price is $55.00 here in Minnesota. I am sure that any reputable supplier of filters can also find one for you. If interested, the adapter also has a pipe plug that can be removed for the installation of a temp. sending unit.

Which filter would you then use if you have the B 1303 adapter on the 8V71 DD?

I use the DD , they cost the same as the rest , and at least you know its OK.

I worry about unbranded stuff like "Fleet Supply" ect.

Have had great luck with Fram in many marine engines , so far.

Jerry,

Again, I agree with Fred, stay away from the price leader filters, there is no savings there.

The Fram B-96 is a good match for the adapter, but any of the name brand filters will fit.

Good Luck Gus Haag
