I just finished putting up and completing my new garage, 30x 50 with a 16 ft ceiling and 14 ft roll-up door. Now I need to finish the floor and wanted the BEST OPINIONS THIS SITE OFFERS. I have a smooth, baby butt finish and I will be using creepers and all the tools that you have available to you in your shop. What do you recommend?? |

I am SO envious! I have to do 50 miles (round trip) to get to my bus, all uphill, and I go there just about daily. Lotsa $$ in gas and, boy, don't I hate it when I've forgotten something and have to backtrack to get it! But creepers? Sounds like you built this specifically for your bus... is it too far along to include a pit? Be a lot easier for that under-the-bus work. Plus would avoid all the jacking and blocking for just some (otherwise) simple task, like lube jobs, etc. I don't get the "I have a smooth, baby butt finish..." reference. I mean. really Gomer, sounds a liitle conceited. I have nice skin too, but I don't go bragging about it. But seriously, how does that relate to using creepers and tools? Nellie Wilson |

Ok Nellie. This is how the finish is on the concrete floor. A Lot of concrete has what is called a broom finish, which is just before the concrete is too hard, a broom is pulled across it and provides a non-skid surface. Most sidewalks and drive-ways use this finish but garages use a slick, baby-butt, finish for the ease of cleaning up grease, oil, water, blood or whatever is spilled on the floor. I have made ramps for driving busses on and then get the BLOCKS and secure coach and then get the creeper and roll on big mama LOL I think you need to post a new photo since the other thread hehe Gomer |

Hello gomer. If it was me, I'd have the floor sealed to prevent oil from soaking into it. You already have the smooth surface. Consider adding some grit to the floor in those places you won't be doing the creeping. Wet shoes and off you go like an old black and white comedy... Lots of products available, commercial grade for sure. Whatever the car dealership, the Goodyear, or whoever, is using. happy coaching! buswarrior |

Gomer, that's exactly what I was looking at in size. Do you have any pics? Is it a steel building? If you don't mind, how much have you got into it? Thanks, Ace |

Gomer, did you put up a steel building or pole barn or what? (Hope Marion county doesent know!)You need to post a picture! Sealer is probably your best bet. I like a grey painted floor but the slippery advise is valid. We are gonna have to look you up next time we hit Ocklawaha. |

Marvin, check with your local contractors supply in you area for years I used Scofield Sealer (clear) in the WalMarts I built many brand names out there but use a good Acrylic-Polyurethane base for cost and long lasting and the floor will stay looking good for years but you will have to apply it again depending on the use.none are going to be a lifetime sealer and the painted floors are high maintiance Good Luck (Message edited by luvrbus on December 02, 2008) |

Gomer, there are comercial epoxy finish's that are applied by trained people that will give you a glass smooth finish that is chemical resistant. Most I have seen are battle ship grey but other colours are available. Dave L |

Gomer, go to UCOATIT.COM. They sell stuf just for concrete floors that will work. I used to do epoxy floors for a living. Their stuff is a water based product that works well on concrete. I suggest not using the flakes, they cause a rough finish but looks pretty. Put two layers of clear epoxy down over the color, one coat will not last long enough. Roger |

After finishing the floor in my shop with the same smooth finish, it was coated with a few coats of a product called EUCO, sold by the cement block local supplier. Was made in regular and heavy duty, which just appeared to have a slightly heavier viscosity. It is almost clear. Put it on with a roller. It is for sealing the concrete and slowing the cure a little. It makes grease and oil smears easy to wipe up and is not slippery when wet. Lacquer thinner and some solvents will remove it if spilled on it but it is still in the pores and could be spot or totally re coated if necessary. Been on there for 15 years and I'm satisfied with it. Also have it on floor in car garage. My shop is 48x60, two 12x12 overhead doors, 15 foot ceiling with a 40 foot pit. |
