Got home last night after a great trip to South Florida. We put a total of 1700 miles on the old girl and she didn't even use a drop of oil. One thing I can't figure out though. Going down I tried to get the maximum mileage I could....I drove at 1900-2000 RPM and got 7.5. Coming home I put the hammer down and drove her at 2250 and got 8.3. Maybe this falls under the heading of driving a detroit like you're mad at it. Anyways I put her to bed last night and jumped in my car then promptly hit a deer just a mile down the road. At least body parts are easier to find for a mustang than a Flx. Here are a few photos of the vacation.

Great photos Tim! We've got two little girls too (ages 1 & 4) and hope to be able to do the same thing while they're still little. Our dream is to travel around for a whole year and home-school the kids in the bus. We'd all but given up on that idea a few months ago when fuel prices were skyrocketing with no end in sight, but now we're optimistic again.

Nice pixs. Looks like a fun trip. Could the mileage diiference be how or where you are topping off the tank? A few degrees tilt in the bus can make gallons difference.

Know what you mean about deer. They are thick around here. I've hit five(three at once!), wife has three, twins sons have two each. Body shop that son works for does about 75% animal strike repairs. Around here they include the occasional elk and even a moose (major ouch) once in a while.

Our ever thoughtful Department of Wildlife has responded by reducing the hunting season to NINE days. I showed them. My grille has a 365 day special permit. Just hope the moose that was in our yard last winter knows enough to stay my out of my way. I drive a suburban and would feel under gunned as it were. Hate to think about moose vs econobox. There was a fatal moose strike on I 90 just a few weeks back.

Here's to many more great trips,

Thanks for the pics! Always nice to see someone enjoying life while we're all couped up try ing to stay warm up here. Think if I had found a mermaid that looked like that I would have at least been in the pic!

Have fun!

Hi Don,

I hadn't considered that but I don't think that was a factor. My tank runs the complete width of the bus with a fill on both sides. When I fill up I open both caps so I have a good vent and top it till I can see fuel on both sides. Grant on the mermaid front my wife was taking the picture so that wasn't going to happen :-)

My experience is best mileage at 15-1600rpm...under 65mph. Cummins 220 turbo...10 wheel 10 speed RTO. :-)
