Howdy folks - I'm one of those bothered by the pulsating and frequent on and off cycling of most water pumps. I've seen small accumilator tank for sale in RV mags -- at a hi price for a small tank. Sears has a 2.5 - 3 gal potable water expansion tank with rubber bladder between the air charge and water for about $40. I simply "T"ed into the water line close to the pump and installed the tank. Now I can go almost an entire night with the pump off and get about 2 gallons of pressurized water plus the pulsing and frequent on and off cycling is a thing of the past. Note: the tank comes "precharged" with about 40psi of air pressure -- most of our RV pumps cut off at about 35 -- there is a simple air valve on the tank to reduce or add pressure to suit your needs. They also have a smaller about 1 gallon tank if space is small. Jerry 4106-1750 Near St Louis, MO |

Thanks Jerry, I have been wondering if a tank would work in the bus. Will make that my next purchase |

The very small 1 quart tanks used on boats works well too, and takes up less space. DO remember that the tank contains water that will NOT get mixed if you antifreez the system, they must be drained.(Don't ask) The non bladder tanks work fine , but the air does get absorbed so a unit needs the top plug pulled every few months to let air in.(pressure pump off) A very important purpose of even the smallest accumulator is to absorb the water that the hot water heater pressurizes by getting the water hot. With out an accumulator the line pressure can get VERY high when 6 to 12 gal of cold water get hot. FAST FRED |

I bought a 2 gallon precharged tank from northern tool for $30. I think it is precharged at 40PSI also. The give instructions on how to set it up with your pump. I think you just precharge the tank to 2 or 3 PSI lower than what the pressure switch is set for. Ross |
