I am probably going to rewire my MC 8 headlights which are now wired in Series . I have installed a Vanner Equalizer for the 12V power source. I will use the new 12v source mainly for the headlights.

Here are my questions:

What wire size should I run from the equalizer to the drivers junction box where I will build a 12v bus bar. The equalizer is mounted in the battery compartment.

What wire size from the equalizer to the new 12v bus bar?

What wire size for the low beams and high beams.

Can I run all of the high beams off of one relay, 4 filaments.

Suggestions?

Bill,
A suggestion would be to rewire them according to the schematic posted under Nellie's "Headlight Problems," halfway down the current list of postings. The last post to it I believe is 1/12/09.

Yes, it is my schematic, so I think its great.
Aside from that, it is the simplest way of converting a 24V bus to properly run on 12V headlights.
All it requires is two 12V, 20A relays, two 20A circuit breakers, and a piece of #10 wire between the relays and the "center tap" at the batteries.
All you have to do to wire the whole thing is put the wiring back to stock, then connect the right ground wire to the 'EQUALIZER' WIRE. You're now half done. Move the left headlight wires in the front junction box to the spare terminals below, connect the relays and breakers to the equalizer wire, install a 12V hi beam indicator bulb, run the equalizer wire to the batts and you're done. You can put a 30 amp auto resetting breaker at the batt end of the equalizer wire, if you want to. Remember, NO curent flows in the equalizer wire unless a bulb burns out, and no headlight current flows thru the batteries unless a bulb burns out.
This is a simplified version of MCI's 12V headlight system, and DOES NOT BURN WATER OUT OF ONE BATTERY! One headlight going out has no effect on the others.
The main reason I suggest this, is that you don't need the equalizer you already have, and you aren't subject to instant total darkness if the equalizer fails, no changing of any of the factory headlight wire sizes, etc.
Then, please see all of the debate about equalizers vs. converters that has just gone on, actually I guess it is still going, then make up your mind?

Or you could get a donor resistor block from a 4905 that had the 12volt headlamp option and save all the hassle.
