Will be removing the bus A/C system from my MC-9 and I need to know the freon capacity of the system which now is charged with 134. The plan is to recycle the freon through an evacuation system into used freon bottles. Therefore I need to know the system capacity in order to have large enough bottles to complete the process once I start. Will have a/c parts available when the system is empty in case anyone needs replacement or spare parts.

The capacity should be stamped on a plate attached to the A/C. Probably covered with dirt and oil. (How did that get there?)

Hope this helps.

Hi Richard:
Your system (unless overfilled) should have 22 to 24lbs in it.
Check with a local refrigeration supplier.
Out hear you can get an empty container(deposit required), then fill it & return it to them at which time they refund your deposit.
I hope this HELPS!!!

The way your post reads, you just want to be responsible and get rid of the R134a without venting it into the air--good for you! I can't speak for others, but I know that where I work we'd be glad to recover your system at no cost with our recycling machine in exchange for the refrigerant. We would want to test it first with an identifier to make sure it's not contaminated.
You might call your local A/C service shops to ask them about it. Too bad I'm 1000 miles south of you!

Thanks, Luke for the capacity info. Yes, my son is assisting me in the recovery of the 134a. He works with a/c systems on farm equipment and has the experience and equipment to reclaim freon.

MY NJT MC-9 took 30 lbs for a full charge. I just did it a couple of weeks ago. Please, please, please get the system evacuated by a pro. 30 lbs is a lot to discard in the air.
