well as posted by me earlier the muffler removal was just a way of making more work for myself because now i have to put it back on. The detroit is just toooo loud. Five miles of headaches behind me and no apparent extra power. thanks for all who replied to my earlier post. Steve |

All true Steve, but can you imagine how cool it would have sounded with a Jake Brake? He he. |

"can you imagine how cool it would have sounded with a Jake Brake? He he." Cool TO WHO? The folks with houses that you pass? If you want to just annoy your fellow Pilgrims buy a Harley , and get your teeth pulled and some tattoos. FAST FRED |

Hey Fred -- I am sure the hells angels would love to see you stopped in a lonely rest area and show you their harleys and dental work whilst i ride bye makin a racket with the detroit noise maker. I think Henry was joking thus the he he You seem to have much intelligence with buses and the like but you need to work on your sense of humor. Just chuckle every now and then, it really helps with life's stresses. We appreciate all the info you have contributed to the board so don't go cranky on us now OK? --------Steve-------- |

I try to have a good sense of humor , but when someone spits in my face I get unhappy. And when those Harley Toothless Morons INTENTIONALLY take a marginally Legal muffler off , so they can install megaphones , and I can hear them 3 1/2 miles away 24/7 I get unhappy. Sorry if I'm the ONLY one that notices that these crapola machines are louder than an 18 wheeler with a 165,000 load. Yes,, I give each & every one a big THUMBS DOWN , as they klunk by , but Happily most are chained on the back of a pickup . I guess the 3000 miles is up & there going for a rebuild! PS ,I love bikes and have ridden for 45 years , current mount a 1964 BMW R-60 US , that is as close to SILENT as the Krouts could make it. 120,000 miles , with only routine service (and a trianual 6V battery.) Sure Ain't a Hog! FAST FRED |

The GMC 10-wheeler I drove (2-valve 6-71, no turbo) was as loud as ANYTHING I've driven, including my 401-powered Gremlin (3" open sidepipes, blower drive, solid lifters, cam geardrive, big-tube headers) & my uncle's straightpiped Cummins Ram. At WOT, it would drown out a FLEET of Harleys. I never used the Jake (it didn't work). The 460 in my bus is a bit loud (3" single exhaust), but still not bad. |

Not to be defending anyone who would actually RIDE or even own a Harley, their "theory" is that , and I quote, "loud pipes save lives". Of course my house has never come close to running over one of them when I am in my living room. Some who ride don't care about anyone but them. I ride a '47 Indian Chief, Bonneville, stock, with stock exhaust and a '68 R60/1, nothing quieter and have never had a problem not being heard. We have a saying, If I had a Harley, I'd leave it for a thief, and with the insurance money, I'd buy an Indian Chief! Just consider the source, fortunatly evolution will take care of most of them. That bemer Fred, is just broken in, Bradd |
