Will Sheppard Steering fit on a 1967 GMC 4502 Suburban Transit. I've heard that due to very wide turning distance of the wheels from lock to lock that Sheppard will not cover the distance. Any actual knowledge on this? I want to have a tilt column installed at the same time.

Thanks in advance.

Hello Al.

When the transit company retrofitted power steering into the T6H5307 fishbowls,(early 80's vintage, over the last couple of years) we lost a little bit of turning radius. They used to be good for about 42' diameter at the rear wheels. They are up above 45' now. Not a huge difference, but if the turn gets tight, you know it's gone, if you knew it used to be there.

Someone new won't notice.

Power steering sure is nice if you have to do some back and cover, but I personally love it over the power steering to drive. The 5307's have lost some of that "sports car" feel, though still better than the Flyers and Orions in driver feel.

I always figured that the back and cover was punishment for getting stuck in the first place!!! lol

Character building!

happy coaching!

The 1967 4502 has power steering from when the conversion was done in 1991 but it is not tight steering, very sloppy due to a inverted "V" control system. I will have it done but am having problem getting a answer from shops.
