Over on the MAK Board, there's been a couple of threads for a busnut who's planning a West Coast trip. One of the things that came up was another poster commenting on traveling a certain stretch of highway in a bus, compared to a car. That comment inspired me to write the following: Laryn's trip planning out here to the West Coast, and the various comments that have been made about routing and highways, has prompted this industry veteran to make the following suggestion: When planning a trip, if you're unsure about the highways in a specific area, try contacting a local charter bus outfit. Ask them if they run charters and/or tours into that area, and what their recommendations are for routing. (Ask to speak to an Operations Supervisor, not the Sales Dept!) Think about it - if the local charter bus outfits are in/out of the area frequently, a busnut shouldn't have any problems either. All bets are off, however, if you're headed to "off the beaten path" stuff. (BK & BW - Wouldn't you agree??) FWIW & HTH. . .  | ||

There must be at least a million Truck Route Guides on the web, any one of them can provide the best route to take. The charter outfits usually left the routing to the driver (well, at least they did during the 60s to the 80s, whenever I drove). They preferred we didn't take toll roads, but the final choice was the driver's. Advice would be better received from a trucking company, than a bus company! Tell 'em to call a moving outfit. Or Google "truck route guide" | ||

FMCA will do routes , fastest , history , scenic, all at no cost for members. Great mail forwarding too. FF | ||

I have a Garmin Nuvi 650 GPS that has a setting for Bus when setting preferences. I have not used it with my bus yet. I will let you know how it works. |
