Hi...I am in the process of purchasing a l981 gmc rts II and will be going on my first "snowbird" trip to Daytona at the beginning of November. I am a female who will be travelling alone and am concerned about security. The original bus door which is currently in place has two holes cut into the windows with a huge chain through it. I would feel much more comfortable with a different arrangement and a "real" door. Can anyone help lead me in the right direction. Thanks |

My Crown ex-school bus had kinda the same arrangement with the front door security and I understand your concerns. If you chain and padlock the door with you inside, then anyone with a lick of sense can tell that someone is inside the coach. What I did at first was get a second padlock with the same key, one lock inside and the other outside the door. When I am inside the coach, I lock the inside lock and it still looks like no one is home. But either way is not a good permanent solution. Finally I got some square tubing and built up the door close to the frame and installed an inexpensive dead bolt lock. Still not absolutely secure because of all the bus windows which can easily be bashed in, but better than nothing. Good luck. |

You can get a replacement door for the RTS from R&M Fiberglass. I bought a new old stock RV door and retrofitted it. I like it much, much better than the old bi-fold doors with a chain. . . Plus it has a screen to keep our six legged friends at bay. Scott |
