Jerry I can't believe you won't let the shop in Lakeland do it for you! I mean even when I helped do the last one, it wasn't messed up that bad and the owners really liked the results! Come on down! The weather is great right now and shoot, you can even help do it and make sure its the way you want it! LOL Ace |

Hi Jerry, I know water based paints are better for the inviroment but, in order to maintain longevity, they would have to seal the water base paint with some sort of clear coat that would have solvents. Either acrilic or urathane would protect your investment without fadeing for many years. Good Luck Nick- |

To kinda ask a related question - How much should someone expect to spend on a single color (white?) paint job if the bus is already stripped to the aluminum? Thanks! Glenn |

It was painted in Lakeland? It probably didn't need my help. I only help to tape some stripes! I didn't do the spraying. Maybe Crazy Tom wasn't painting there when the Eagle was spayed! Who does it belong to? Got any pictures? Sure it was the same shop? Ace |

Urethane and good quality at that is the only way to go. Often the cheapest, quickest, easiest way to do anything is once. Paint is not only the first-line of defence against the elements but things are usually valued based on what they look like.(do NOT apply this principal to girls unless you're young and have spare time and money) I'm painting the Buffalo myself but I have that set of chops. Protect your investment and find some other way to save $1000.00. |

There is only one way to go and that is base coat, clear coat. Look at mine after 16 years. The bus Ace is talking about is Syl's and it turned out good. The design is very important in the job. Better give me a call before you have it done. Jack (Dad) |

Jack its about time you jumped in here and straightened that boy of yours out! Shoot, Jerry, drag that bus back on down here to the shop so I'll have someplace to go hang out after work! The yard work at home is about to do me in! Besides, Crazy Tom is itching to paint another bus and I'm sure if you sweet talk John, the price can't be beat! Ace |

Jack see-> http://www.prideestore.com/PRIDEstore/Images/IndustryPDFS/Vehicle%20Renovation%20Brochure. pdf part of the Volulsia County Tomoka State Prison (Deland Florida) - mostly hard core felons ? You may want to see what these guys can do for you! They painted my RTS 5-6 years ago - They have twin EPA (one million dollar paint booths) - they do the county's vechicle They also do classic car restoration The only downside was I told them - to take there time - I shouldn't have done that - they took ALL the county vechicles ahead of mine They did nice work Pete RTS Daytona |

My RTS is only 35' - I estimated the surface area to be preped and painted to be 750 sg ft. They would have done the surface prep - But I wanted to do it - I should have let them do it - They do a better job - When I dropped off the bus - the prep was not up to there standard - they re-did many areas to there satisfaction - they are really good The RTS was painted with PPG Ommi paint (color/ clear coat) 1 gal MP170 epoxy primer 1 qts MP175 epoxy primer hardener 5 qts MD180 2k sealer 1 qts MH166 sealer slow hardener 4 gal MBC 33766a Acrylic Basecoat (light Pewter) 1 gal MBC 33764B Acrylic Basecoat (dark Pewter) 5 gal MR187 slow reducer 5 gal MC161 High Solids clear uretance Clear 5 qts mh168 slow topcoat hardener 1 pnt MX193 Flex additive 1 pnt MX194 Fisheye remover Yeild --> Approx 3 coats color - 4-5 coats clear Cost about $3900 in 1993 (3 colors / 3 coats color / 4 clear) P.S. - They also reblacked all my window trim and painted the low gloss black sloping design ask for Sam Funicello or Dave Lasizza 386 254-3916 (Message edited by pete rts/daytona on April 01, 2009) |

Thanks Pete. The FLx is also 35' and with the stainless panels probably less surface than the RTS |
