Hi: Why does the floor rise towards the rear of my 1963 01? Based on how the Belgians built it, there seems to be no reason why they built the 01 this way. There is plenty of room over the engine compartment. I am thinking about leveling the floor in the rear of the coach. If anyone knows why the coach was built this way, I would sure appreciate it. Sloped for drainage purposes I would think. As people enter with wet shoes, the floor becomes very wet throughout the day and it's best that the water runs forward towards the door where it can be wiped up. I can't think of any other reason. |

There's plenty of room over the engine when you've got a Detroit 8V71 sitting back there. But remember, Kassbohrer based the Eagle on a model they were building for European use, where taller M-B or Deutz diesels are more common. If you lower the floor, then decide to repower with a Series 60, you'll wish you hadn't! RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |

OR....You could lower the floor & leave motor box sized room under the rear bed. My brother in law's American Eagle motorhome is that way, to accomodate the big Cummins six cyl. Jim-Bob |

I think I found the real answer why the floor drops from rear to front. As I was driving along during a recent trip to Branson, I was enjoying the great view out the large windshield of the MC9 and considering how the windows have grown in size over the years from something the driver needed to see out into the large ones they are today. How nice for the passengers. Then it hit me: Theater style seating. I'll bet the floors started slopping about the same time the windshields began to grow. With about 1/8" per foot each person sits about a 1/4 to 1/2" above the person in front of them. Doesn't give a complete unobstructed view, however, you at least have a chance to see out by looking between the seat or out from the isle seat. FWIW, Steve G. |
