Those would be very cool but the oversize permit may be a real hassle to get. They probably never left the Kennedy Space Center once they were delivered. I'm sure that lots of us have already built the interiors for them in our heads. What a great full timer vehicle ! |

Ol' Jim, who used to be a frequent contributor to this and other bbs's, looked at these buses before the Kennedy Space Center auctioned them off.
He passed on purchasing one due to the severe rust, very low headroom on both decks, the complexity of the dual front steering axles, and their length.
Since they ran only on private property, their length was a non-issue. On public roads, that's another story. . .
(For those who don't already know, these Neoplans are forty-eight feet in length, three-feet longer than legal everywhere w/o a permit. Altho most troopers would probably not notice, or get out the tape measure. But be involved in a fender-bender, and the "liars for hire", as Fast Fred likes to call them, would have a field day.)
A-Z Bus Sales has been trying to sell these behemoths for a couple of years now (at quite inflated prices, btw), and not had much luck doing so.
Me thinks someone in Purchasing made a boo-boo tying up the boss's cash. . .

Yea, all true, but could you imagine what a cool conversion it would make? If you RV lifestyle was to drive only a little and park a whole lot, one of these would be soooosss bitchin'.
All the engineering, permit, length, height issues aside, imagine what could be done with one of these? However, the practicalities do hit home. What a cool bus. Thanks. |

I'd need a rear view to be certain, but I bet losing 3' in length wouldn't be too hard (ie, shorten the bumpers). |

You know, I keep coming back to this post to gaze at the neat pictures of the biggest bus I have ever seen.
Keep wondering to myself how cool of conversion it would make. "Excuse me, do you have any Grey Poupon?" "But of course."
"Say dude, that's one big bus! How many bedrooms does it have?" "Four staterooms, each with a private head, plus two showers, two galleys...
three salons, plus the main bridge." Wonder how many gallons of water could be cramed onboard. Only 500 or soosss. Lets see....at 3 mpg, how.....
Far will 180 gallons of fuel take you. Hey, maybe we could all get Fast Fred to drive for us. He he he. Thanks. |
