Hey! Ian!! I’ve looked around the site, but couldn’t find anything other than the member’s pages on this… Is there a “Bus Owner’s Registry” of some sort here? If not… What would you say to creating one? I think it would be neat to have “Regional Associations” based on BNO’s membership… Have a State and/or Local chapters type thing where events and meets could be more formally organized? I’d love it if there were such a thing… Maybe even have “Membership Identification Numbers” that could be used on bumperstickers or the like… “Certified BusNut #BN00001” or some such… Something that was “Vanity Plate” friendly? I'd certainly get the plate with my number on it!! Maybe even go with a base-16 numbering system, then you could have something like "BNO-A1F" or some such and get MANY more numbers involved... It’s just a thought… Cheers! -Mac |

Oh, c'mon, John! ^.^ I know there's plenty of bus registries out there... Is it so bad to want one for this board? -Mac |

Many of us busnuts belong to Family MotorCoach Association (FMCA). FMCA also has members with motorhomes. Each member is assigned a number (ours is 72092)and receives 2 oval plaques, usually referred to as "goose eggs", that can be attached to the exterior of your coach. Once a year their magazine includes a listing by number as well as a listing by name so you can look up fellow members. If you look up the number on another coach, it will give the members name and home city/state. Jack |

While I agree with Jack FMCA serves that purpose I do think a listing of city and state and bus type in our signature would be usefull (only if you want it displayed) Case in point I just discovered by accident that I live less than 5 miles from another busnut but had no idea. |

Jack - "and receives 2 oval plaques, usually referred to as "goose eggs", " Huh! They only sent me one when we were members! "their magazine includes a listing by number as well as a listing by name so you can look up fellow members. If you look up the number on another coach, it will give the members name and home city/state. Jack" These days, things are a bit different. The information can now be used by any thief to know exactly where you live. It's great info to know who has the bread, and how far away their breadbox is. Personally, I preferred to be as anonymous as possible while out in the wild. You just can't safely give away too much personal information any longer. City (or county) and state is fine for the BBS |

If this was started, there would be a fight over who got #1 (me of course) Ian would have to go back to the first registered, yada, yada, yada. Just get an FMCA membership. Now an unnumbered small identifying plate or decal would be nice or not. OR we all could get one like John has: A Colt 45 picture and "go ahead, make my day on it". I wouldn't mind having a small plate, metal or plastic, with a different shape to make it still somewhat noticeable, even out of rifle range. Of course there will be the inevitable fight as to what the design looks like. The profits, if any, could go to support the site. Maybe T and sweat shirts too, and key fobs. |

^.^ Glad to see I'm not the only one who thinks this kind of thing would be a good idea... I think some sort of formalization would be useful to us... But, I do agree that it shouldn't go so far as to identify exactly where the coach is kept (street address). A simple City/State would suffice I think... As to who would get the #1 spot... That should, naturally, go to Ian. ;) I'll take the #2 spot for suggesting it. XD -Mac |

Everybody has t-shirts. When anybody goes on vacation they buy a t-shirt that says where they went. They usually buy them at Wally World and spend their money at a fancy resturant and said they had a good time wish you could have went with us. Now I would like to have a SHIRT that says "Busnut" with your name on it, Like "Gomer", or something that would make me look special when I went in a business. They would actually think I had money and would treat me with more respect, which we all deserve now and then. PLEASE NO T-SHIRTS> Oh bty I will pay for mine with shipping included for only $19.95. But if you act now you can get 2 for the same price and all you do is pay the shipping [ 9.99] LOL LOL Gomer |

Gomer, a nice t-shirt, worn out sneakers and a thong.....yeah, you'll get respect. As far as the number, just pick a time and everyone gets the number of their posts on their plate. That way, some new guy that wants to get a coach will get #1, which actually is a better deal than OWNING one and all its headaches/ frustrations. |

A newbee point of view.. Macgyver - I love the idea of knowing where other Busnuts are located, but agree that you don't want the public to be able to find your home when you are on the road! How about Burgees - like boating yacht clubs? We just had some made for our new club, totally from sctatch, and they ended up being about $20 each. 4-5 color, about 10" long, classy, and would look great on a bus antenna! Start a new fad... In out boat club, the list of members with their contact info is emailed to so we can get in touch easily and know where everyone lives, but it is not published. Reality is, as a separate part of this site, you guys (and gals) could start a more formal club for the real serious, mybe a nominal membership fee, and share more personal info with those you trust, and still keep this site open to all like it is now. Busses and yachts have a lot in common, especially the commitment level of the people! Jim |

I don't know, I am still unsure what to make of that hot headed young mountie's expression when he pulled my electric (towed) deck&half trolley over & had a look at my doc. A tomic "keep on truckin" licence plate over. That was over 23 years ago, & i am still woundering ! Perhaps RDF chips for our buses, that "know-one" can see but big brother, would be safer than busin around with serial numbered bus-nut-plates; I call plate #666 before john did. |

If the shirt logo thing is desired, these people that do embroidery on those fascinating machines can do a computer mock up of a logo for about 3 to 4 hundred bucks, which is our property and they'll embroider the shirts, caps, t shirts, the seat of John's pants with him still wearing them for a per piece fee. With some thought, we could come up with a pretty cool design. Your metal or other type plates could have your coach model number with ending serial number? Or Sean's phone number. |

Ian, First let me say you have a great looking and managed board. You keep it clean, organized, and operational. No simple feat. I see what my wife goes through creating/managing web sites. That said, I have a couple comments. On the registration issue of city, state, email, etc., most sites will ask you for this information when you register. Some ask for more info, some less. The point is many sites give the new subscriber the option of having that information kept private (for the webmaster) or allowed onto the public section of the board. By a different mechanism, your site offers that option now. I think the concerns over city and state non-listing are without merit. There are other bus folks that have contacted me because they realized I lived relatively close to them. And the reverse is true. It would be a shame to lose that ability. And you know, I haven't had any bus stalkers call my phone number or show up on my door step. If it's a concern to a poster, they currently have the option of not listing considerable information. But you need relevant information to maintain control over the board. My other suggestion would be to put all navigation info on the top of the page, instead of the bottom. This makes it more apparent to users and far more convenient than scrolling to the bottom of a page just to view updated posts on a topic. Another area I would expand on is Images, Attachments, and Clipart instructions. You have limited the size of upload .gif and .jpg files, the specific KB of which is not listed. Does the size vary between profile and post (see my question to you under the "Oops!" thread)? Expansion of graphic upload instructions, I feel, would be helpful to many, and possibly save you much time in responding to both public and private pleas for help in this area. Another reason, I think, more graphics are not used is the hesitance to test while learning because it will become a permanent comment to a thread or sometimes a new thread. This can be an embarrassment to folks, hence it becomes a road block to many in enhancing their posts. As I briefly mentioned in another post, we modify and tweak on our web sites, sometimes many iterations until we get it right. We use sub-domains, fake DNS lookup, etc. to accomplish this without the "public" viewing any interruption on the respective site. I would suggest a small "test" box in each BNO profile where a user could upload and/or manipulate photos or drawings, particularly .pdf files of the latter -- all of which would be seen only by the poster for content, looks, sizing, etc.; and would be deleted when they exit their profile. Just my two cents on improvements to an already stellar forum. Chuck Newman Oroville, CA some day soon to be Chuck Newman Sioux Falls, SD |
