At the Ritchie Bros auction in Edmonton tomorrow April 28, there is the above mounted in a New Flyer 60' articulated. Powerpack new 2 years ago and seen few miles since. Internet bidding available, and you can drive it home. Fred, have you found all the pieces you were looking for? Joe. |

The New Flyer sold for 6400 and went to B.C.via the internet. Also 5 fishbowls vintage 1980 with V730 auto's went for between 300 and 700 canucky dollars This looks like the largest auction that Ritchie Bros has ever had in Canada. 4400 pieces of equipment of various sorts, three days running with 2 auction rings or more going all the time. And I had to sit on my hands or risk the danger of being relegated to taking up residence in one of my buses. Joe |

wow, that's some good prices for fishbowls. were they running? Gillig articulated with S50 in Texas went for less than $3000. I was tempted, but there wasn't enough information regarding whether that can be licensed as a RV, so I prevented myself from buying a second bus. (Message edited by WhiteBus on April 30, 2009) |

Just to answer your question, as far as I know, no state will allow a vehicle to be titled as an RV that is over 45'. And in some states, 45' is limited to specific roads (rarely enforced). Best bet is to stick with 40' or shorter. Jack |

"Think how much you'll save with that fantastic fuel mileage.' The coach gets 10mpg now at speed (70-75) on the flats sez the past owner. We will try air tabs and a light foot and would be happy with 12 , delerious with 14!!! But any fuel savings will sure be blown at Pete's Drag Races The VL 100 is under 24,000 lbs with a 3.73rear and the 50 "tweekd " to 330hp/1100ft lbs we should do OK , till someone even crazier comes along. But the mileage will suck, when burning rubber!! The rear axle was for a 6-71 ,(half the torque) so when it leaves probably a 3.33 will go in , and that will kill the trophies Pete is giving out. Fred - Gillig built 12 Phantom transits with the DD S-50 mated to the ZF gearbox for Fresno, they're still in service. But that leads to the possibility that they built a bunch more for other operators around the country, as Gillig garnered up a huge percentage of the transit market in the '90s. Some may be S-50/ZF, others may be S-50/B500s, but there should be a bunch out there getting ready to be auctioned off, as most are at the 12 - 14 year mark. Might help your search? FWIW & HTH. . .

Might help your search? Probably too far along with the parts pile to change noe , thanks. We are ending up with a 600 (talk about HD!) with minor OD and the torque convirter and tranny oil cooler from a 500. Made for 550Hp MANN and a heavy monster bus , this ZF HT600 should be bullet pruf in a 24,000 lb coach! I love overkill, as I hate the side of the road! FF |

Fred, are you actually putting a supposedly unreliable electronic drive line in your bus? |

"Fred, are you actually putting a supposedly unreliable electronic drive line in your bus?" YES , But don't worry I wont drive in the rain or in thunderstorms and should have plenty of warning of any nukes from Iran or N.Korea to do an ELT meltdown. Yes and shock of shocks this camper is a total electric jobby! 2 Basement airs, a rooftop carbunkle , A Honda 7KW and an Ohno 2.7 , even a princess 120V ekectric range , so we can kick back and wait a half hour for a pot of tea. Had (will restore) 4 baseboard 120V heaters and an AC/DC fridge. Talk about the DARK SIDE!! IN NO way would I build a bus camper like this , but its what Angola did in the 1970. Since we frequent campgrounds TE wont be much of a hassle , and 300HP/1100ft.lbs with Jake and Retarder is what we are looking for. The current plan is to visit the Western States , with a boat (28ft) in tow to see the rivers and lakes , we cant get to any other way. THe FRAME , with a big engine is the reason for the swop, GM , at least mine , is never useful to tow a heavy (10,000lb) load as the tongue weight 12-15% is over the 300 lbs recommended for any GM. Compromise is the name of the game ,this camper is a tool to an end , not the end. FF |

Wow! I am shocked that you would choose an electronic engine considering your past posting against such things but I believe you will be mostly pleased at some of the positive benefits that the electronic systems offer and hopefully they will out weigh the down sides. I can sure identify with the slow wait to heat the tea because those low amp coils are just marginal and don't compare at all to the propane burners. What model exactly is the new bus? As you make your way west and if you pass through New Mexico, give me a bump and we will hook you up to our pole here in Lincoln County. By the way, Are both of those gensets diesel or propane fueled or do they need gasoline? |

What model exactly is the new bus? 1956 Flxible VL 100, we like the way the interior is lit with the large clear hatches and the Scenicruser style split level with the second windshield . In the shade or on a rainy day the camper is still bright inside. FF |

That's the bus , but on mine the only carbunkle is on the Fwd lower section , so it doesn't add to the air height in towns. He is missing loads of stock trim in the rear. One interesting historical note is ours is ANGOLA Conversion's Bus #1, their first conversion. Stoopid , HUGE bathroom (with bath tub) and perhaps (as Bea Robertson claims) the first side isle conversion in the country (1970). But its bright and airy and will do its job for use, hopefully on Nov when we get South again . The Sportscar of coaches will go to Jacks New Years party , perhaps to meet her next owner. FF |

Sounds really neat and unique Fred and I hope to get a look at it one day if I can just make it to one of the rallies. |
