Hey guys... I went down to the local O'Reillies auto parts place looking for batteries and was let in on a little secret by one of the guys that I frequently buy parts from.... He said that *BRAND NEW* batteries, of any kind, regardless of the brand, type, voltage or size get SLASHED to only $20 if they sit on the shelf for too long. They call them "reconditioned" batteries... Basically, they're just batteries that sat long enough to naturally lose a couple of volts and stuck on a charger... That's it. There's nothing wrong with them... Most auto parts places are set up on a network that can check for these parts across all stores in the local area. Within a few seconds, they can tell you if there are any of these batteries available and where they are... And, in most cases, can have them delivered to your local store to pick up in one place by the next day or even a couple of hours! Just thought I'd pass on the info. Cheers! -Mac | ||

...might be good candidates for desulphating at $20, which is likely why they failed the load test and ended up on the reconditioned shelf. Using them in a battery bank would need them to be reconditioned to very similar states or you would have imbalance charge problems & very short life with low performance. That is often the thing about secrets, they often tell less than the full truth. | ||

same is true for the INTERSTATE BATTERY DISTRIBUTOR - not the retailer - the DISTRBUTOR They also only have a 30 day warranty | ||

Well... Ya can believe they're the rejects if ya like... But, personally... $20 or less for a usable battery that's just been recharged seems like a deal to me! ^.^ -Mac | ||

If you want to go this route, you might want to look into Pulse chargers to desulfate them and chargers of this type are nice to use when coach is sitting for an extended time. Below is one of several companies that offer this equipment. http://www.pulsetech.net/ | ||

Last year i picked upa Black and Decker smart charger a BC40. It has 4/10/20/40 amp charge rates, has switch for wet,gel,AGM,batteries; 110amp engine start,and a desulfate and alt.check function. the best part is you can carry this thing with 2 fingers, it cant weigh more than 4 pounds. The desulfate worked on a old motercycle battery. I got it at Walmart (gotta buy somthing for the overnite parking privlage). One of our best buys in awhile. | ||
