Hey guys... Thought I'd start this thread for recent contact and locations of folks willing to help others or host get togethers... I'm located in Bossier City, LA -- Across the river from Shreveport, LA in the northwest portion of Louisiana, close to Interstate 20. As most of you already know, my cell phone number is 318-840-9254. My email address is wiredfreak at gmail dot com. If you're up this way, just give me a buzz. I have a place out back where you can park if you want to park on grass, or there's a small dead-end street about 1/2 a block away that I've parked my buses at many times. There's also a Wal-Mart very close by with access to Home Depot and Lowes, as well as auto-parts stores close by. There's also many other places near-by that stock hard-to-find parts that may be of use to you, as well as repair shops that service trucks that may be useful as well. Cheers! -Mac |

Mac, I think just about everyone already knows that we live near Arcadia, Florida. We have 11 30 amp connections (most with a water connection). I also have a large shop with enough tools to fix just about anything. Our phone number is 863-993-3683 and my email is jconradATrvbus.net Another source for help when traveling is Dave Seigal's Help Assist Directory http://www.cruiser-magazine.com/Help_assist_data_base.html |

Man, It's a wonderful thing that the search engine robots don't record phone numbers. If they did, any phone number listed on any web page would be added to a compile of usable numbers and sold to all sorts of agencies! The reverse directory services could tell any unscrupulous person your name and address! Yeah. Good thing that doesn't happen! On the web..... you aren't just talking to those you want to talk to, you're talking to everyone in the world. I get a real kick out of those that use "at" instead of the "@" sign for fear of spam, then they provide their telephone number! Google your phone number, or your name, or your address and see what the rest of the world has access to! And the search engine info is instantly archived by every "hop" your data takes, from one place to another. Just pull up a command prompt and type tracert and the ip address your sending data to. tracert www.busnut.com or tracert 74.54.26.162 Your data, everything you type, is taken in and sent out, at each of those locations, along with being archived. . Yup. And it's a good thing there's a thing called "caller-ID" and another great invention called "voicemail"... Used together, it's easy to ignore "toll-free" and "unknown" phone calls and screen the calls! I, personally, don't really care who has my number... If someone starts harrassing me... a 5 minute phone call to AT&T Wireless resolves the issue with a quick number change, effective within 15 minutes... Yep, I've had to do it before... Of course, if I still had my asterisk system running... It's even more fun to toy with people that have no business calling me! ;) -Mac |

Mac, I have actively discouraged what you have proposed here for many years. I think it's a great idea, but it's also do darned insecure. Internet stalking is a favourite pastime of some pretty freaky people and, although our little part of the internet is usually untouched by even hard core internet users, I'd say it's still a little risky. I do, however, invite everyone who is registered to this bulletin board system to go to their profile and fill in the section where it asks if there's any way you can be of assistance. There is at least one other internet site within our hobby that has attempted to organize everyone to leave their info at that site. Don't know if it's working well, I just know of it. Perhaps one of our viewers (or the owner of the site) would like to leave a link to it in this thread and I hope they will. Having said all this, I have studied, and will shortly implement, an "anonymous" user list that will take on the same style and form as the BMW Owners Anonymous list, if anyone is familiar with that publication. It will be a section of BNO, but at a different web address (for a reason I won't disclose at this time) where anyone with an internet connection but regardless if they have a computer or not, will be able to look up and phone a published number where they don't know who they are calling but they do know they are calling a "friendly face" within our hobby who can help in the event of breakdown or any other emergency. When the call is placed, the identity and location of both parties can be exchanged at that time, and at that time only - no other personal info will be available to view on the internet site. Stay tuned for that, because it would seem like you'd want to be a part of that kind of system of identification. Meantime, if I could respectfully ask that you edit your listing so that your personal info doesn't show (or ask me here, if it's too late for you to do it). I would also ask our viewers to refrain from leaving anything on this web site or in this thread that might identify your location or other private personal information. Thank you. John, Maybe I have just been lucky, but I have not had any problems in 19 years of being on the internet. I grew up in a small town/rural area and everyone knew everyone, where they lived, who they married and probably where they had supper last night. We never had any problems. I realize the world is entirely different today, but as far as remaining anonymous, with the internet and computers, just about anyone can find you if they really want to. Personally, I don't care who finds me, I am not hiding from anyone or anything. As far as emails and phone calls, those are easy to take care of with call blocking, and Block Sender in my email. I refuse to let the world cause me to become paranoid or live in constant fear of who might know where I am or how to contact me. YMMV Jack |

Hi Jack, Although I agree with your comments, respectfully, there are easy solutions, such as the one I have mentioned, without ever having to conjure up thoughts of paranoia or fear! Again, do stay tuned!! Ian www.busnut.com |

Hi Jack! Re: "I have not had any problems in 19 years of being on the internet." Nineteen years ago. Boy, that brought back memories. I think my PC had a whopping 200meg hard drive... The first version of Windows hit the market about then... wow. Seven years ago, we moved to Florida. The cell phone we had been using was fairly new, but the bag for the battery and electronics was pretty worn out. My wife said it was too damn heavy for her to carry, and I carry things like an ape.. So we bought a new cell phone. Small and light, and it actually had an LCD screen that I could put a picture into. Nice. My present laptop is seven years old, and considered a relic. My present cell phone does everything. It's a "Pocket PC" (PPC - for nerds), the screen resolution is better than my laptop, I can access the Internet no matter where I am, and the thing runs all sorts of programs (ham radio, music, video) that will run in the Windows Mobile 6.2 environment... It's nice to have "Google maps" wherever we need it, and great fun to watch YouTube when we're in the mood.. News broadcasts, and everything I can access with my laptop, I can do with the PPC. I guess what I'm trying to say Jack, is that time's changed, and it's changed "big time". The criminal element has changed also; it's high tech now. It's not what we had twenty years ago, seven years ago, or even two years ago. But Hey.... we're all free to do as we please, and there's nothing wrong with that. We can still leave our front doors unlocked, and the keys in our ignition. . |

hating to pull advocates with you McJohn9( as my shoe phone is clearly inferior to yours ), but what has not changes is our responsibility to be responsible for those of lessor moral discipline & not encourage them to have us as "easy victims" of there cheat & gain. Trust given freely should be governed with a appropriate level responsibility. |

Ian & Mac - The one thing that I find really, really helpful, not only here, but also on the MAK board, is when busnuts put at least their city & state in their profile. Why? Because it makes it a lot easier to find help for them if they're having a problem. That's #1 in my book. Personal contact info, such as a phone number, is, IMHO, personal preference. I have not gotten any spam phone calls from having my number posted in my profile, but I sure have had calls from fellow busnuts. Sometimes it's for help, sometimes it's for recreation, but always interesting and always welcome. As our good buddy Fast Fred says: "Do it your way!" FWIW & HTH. . .

I really don't care if everyone knows where I live, my phone number, email address, website address etc. etc.! If you don't want to share it that's your business, for those that do it's your choice, period. I never have had a problem and I've been doing this for a long time, I'm with Jack on this one! This is my way! HA ~Paul~ PS - BTW - I have met some wonderful bus folk that I may not have had the privilege of having contact with, I'll take my chances because that out-ways my fears! What about doing a simple off line Excel list just for the people on the board that want to be included? I for one would love to know if there are any other busnuts in Nevada! I saw a really nice MCI in a storage yard in Carson City - anyone here own it? I'm in Gardnerville, just south of Carson City... Jim |

Let's have some faith! If |@N is working on the next big thing.... we'll no doubt benefit! Those who want to be found, are already out there, those who don't, won't? Might I suggest that one good way to find busnut friends is to make yourself accessible and approachable via a website or blog, both of which are available free from numerous places. Really simple, a few typed words of your intentions and interests, perhaps a picture and you are done. Put the link to your new personal presence in your profile on BNO, and they'll find you, as you find them. happy coaching! buswarrior |

My email, phone and home address have been on my website and on multiple boards for years. I have never had a problem except maybe a little more spam than average, not a big deal. I am very careful with bank accounts and such. Hope nobody considers this a challenge! |
