Proud new owner of a 4104 with 6-71 DD. 2600 miles on out of frame overhaul. What is normal oil consumption for this engine? |

If consumption also covers leaking , 500 miles a quart would be in the ball park.
Depending on the size of the drips , some folks claim 2000 miles , but that has never been my experience.

My trnasmission leaks that much!
Honestly I out of framed my 671 turboed it all sorts of stuph and it dosn't hardly use oil at all. Just went from North Calif to Montana and on to Kansas to the FMCA national and used 1 gallon which includes leaks. The engine I replaced used at least 1 qt per 500.
I use Delo 400 sae 40 which I understand is not for 2 cycles but I'v had good luck with it. |

WOW! All the diffrence in the world. I can't believe the dirrence. Of course I had to change a whole bunch of stuph, compression, redo the blower and few more odds and ends, well worth it. If you can do your own work it's not to bad cost wise. I spent a bunch because I bought a spare engine and and started in. Spred the $ over a 2 year period so wife wouldnt notice it so much.
Seems the first thing everyone asks is does it heat up, nope. Detroit makes a high volume water pump which probly helps. The ole 04 gets down the road now. |

I wonder if the Detroit high volume water pump would help the cooling problems people are having with there old 671,s .Where the cooling system is not what it used too be. Could this new pump easily be put in place of the old pump ?

Yep, the high volume pump is in the partsbook. You need to find a good GM parts guy.
I noticed it in the 671 engine manual and there is no big deal installing it. Its been a while but i think you need to buy the intire assy not just the innards.
I pull Donner Pass a lot going east out of Calif. and never had a heating ptoblem yet,(knockknock)

I would very much appriciate you telling me more about the turoing of your 671 ie.how many hp 275?how did you route the exaughst it had to go to the turbo right?what other problems did you have? what did it cost? Do you have photos? what kind of a dona engine do I look for if I want to turbo fine?
