Well now that we have gotten into some warmer weather the bus painting job we started several months ago is finally in the last stages...

Here is a photo of it before it was painted:

And here it is just after painted before the final buff and cleanup:

I hope to have it done and back in my driveway in about a week. Can't wait....

Actually most of the painting was done by a friend. His equipment, his shop. He did let me try out his new gun on part of the roof. Puts my gun to shame... My part was mostly getting the old paint off and driving the bus whenever it needed to be moved.

My friend got the paint for us. It was a single stage paint used on airplanes. I'll have to ask him exactly what the spec was.

We used a stripper for most of the bus, but because the upper part of the bus had been painted several times (we counted 7-9 layers of paint/primer) we used sanders with scotch pads on the main portion of the panels and wire wheels around the seams and rivets.

I didn't want to do this one but it needed it badly.. I don't want to do another one for a while. My GTO is my next automotive paint project, in about another year, maybe he will let me use his new gun by then. I still have to build my 16'x20' backyard shed/shop and paint it and my house needs painting. This must be my year for painting....

R.C.
You can ask as nicely as you want, with all the smilies you can fit on a post, this is a project I hope to not have to do again anytime soon. And my friend said he does'nt want to see the bus for at least a month after he is finished with it. He says I owe him "BIG TIME" and I'm afraid to ask him what he means.....

I spent a few months last year prepping our Eagle, doing research, buying supplies and I must say I'm no painter! It looks like crap! :-(

I'm going to scratch it up, finish the back and have a friend shoot it! He's a professional paint and bodyman, and it's one thing that takes a lot of practice to be able to do it right the first time. If I had the time and had a smaller project to learn on I'd consider giving it another shot, but not in this life on this coach! I enjoy leaning something new, and take pride in learning, but sometimes you have to just admit to yourself, "If you want it to look good, have someone else do it!" :-)

Paul,
I know what you mean.
Comming to terms with my limitations is dificult.
But I've found that I'm much happier when I do. And I don mess things up so much.....

Smiley test...
:-)
:-(

Well that worked very nicely....
