Do any of you Crown folks know if they were ever equipped with the Supercharged Cummins engines of the 1950's? |

Kevin - Not sure about the supercharged Cummins, but lots and lots of Twinkies were built with turbocharged Detroits & Cummins pancakes. FWIW & HTH. . .

On my Crown Passenger Coach conversion at 36,0000 pounds with Cummins 262 we used a different turbo and larger pump and nozzles for more power. The work was done by a shop that did farm tractor pulls. There was a dramatic power increase, 21 PSI boost rather than the old 7. Able to start in 3rd with no smoke and shift 6-8-10. 88 MPH at 2200. Before you had to row it through the gears. No need for a supercharger....... |

1964 Cummins 220 Turbo, amidships, RoadRanger 10 Speed...power steering assist, gets consistent 10-12mpg...38,500GVRW, 10 wheels, tag, Dry/Wet-Slippery/Normal...few complaints, if any. Original documents showed all as original equip.... Not real sure what you are asking about...yes I understand your English. FWIW (Message edited by chuckllb on May 10, 2009) |

FWIW, the supercharged Cummins I've seen back in the day were rated at 275 & 320 as I recall. |

Hey Kevin , I have a 65 Crown. It came with a 220 "Pancake" engine but I repowered it with a Big Cam 290 86 vintage. I know quite a bit about cummins stuff.I'm going to look up your question Hey Jim, are you sure it is a 262? |

It is a flat NHHTO 743 inch 262 HP according to the papers. Weren't the 220's non turbo and the turbo models the 262? The power upgrade was dramatic. Is your engine upright or flat now? Mine was a Hawaii tour bus with passenger seats. |

All the supercharged versions were 743's. I think the designation was NHRS or something like that. They have a pretty distinctive sound. |

Kevin-distinctive sound-translated LOUD! Turboing will always be more fuel efficient then supercharging-that's why Cummins doesn't make it anymore. Douglas-Imagine what yours would do with a big cam 400 (same block)? Good Luck, TomC |

My Kenworth has a big cam III 400 and a 15 speed, 4.11 rears and 24.5 rubber. It gets good MPG running around. I take it to ATHS shows and will eventually pull my 5th wheel with it. I got on this board years ago to research getting a coach to RV with but my love of old trucks I decided to get one of those instead for my travels. The old supercharged engines are loud but boy do they sound good. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WZDxj8E7acI There are a couple in this video. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=mFDUmpnssBY |
