First, let us introduce ourselves. We are Gene and Audrey. We drive a 1977 MCI named Dreamchaser. This past week has not been good. First, there was something wrong with the starter. A friend of a friend checked it out and found a problem with the solonloid. We replaced that, so Chaser would start,, but only with the rear remote start. I tracked the wire down, the wire to the soloniod on the front panel was loose. I fixed that. Chaser would start. But, when I tried to shut her down, she took some time - a couple of minutes to stop. Today, when we were getting ready to leave for the next stop on our journey, before air pressure was up, she shut down. It is like she is starving for fuel. We are in Denton North Carolina, and know few people here. Anyway, anyone have any ideas? thanks silverheart |

Gene, I'm too far away to be of much help, but you may want to look on Dave Siegal's Help Assist List. There are a few in the NC area that are close to Denton. http://www.cruiser-magazine.com/Help_assist_data_base_G-N.html |

Gene, Its probably not fuel supply. Probably another loose wire in the control circuit. The air shutdown will operate at about 75 psi, if the Skinner valve is not energized. (The Skinner valve lets air thru to the stop cylinder when it has NO power.) A quick fix to find the problem, and get you going, is to loosen the screws on the stop cylinder, and move it away from the stop lever it pushes on. Located in the vee, with a small hose on it which goes up to a solenoid valve on the wall above it. Easily visible/reachable from the back door. After you disable the shutdown, you will have to walk to the back, and push the lever to stop the engine, until you find and fix your electrical problem. If you are still down, look in my profile, and call the cell. Good luck, George |

Is the key in the on position? Switches ok in the back? Is it an 8V with an emergency shutdown that needs to be reset? Do you have fuel? Do you have a shutdown system from the factory? If you do, you need to be full of oil and water. Sometimes God just tells us not to do something, so if all else fails, just start over tomorrow. Keep smiling, when they run, its all GOOD! |

Gene, another possibility that may help you (if you're heading southwest from Denton), would be to contact "General Parts and Repair" in northwestern Charlotte. It's owned and run by a guy who's dad was foreman in the Hound shop in Charlotte (and opened his own shop when Hound decided to "contract out" their repair work) and Pops still comes in and works part time. They're: GENERAL PARTS & REPAIR 850 Craighead Rd, Charlotte (704) 597-0547 |

While it may seem like bad luck to you, this is all just normal maintanence. After 21 years of over the road truck driving, there is no such thing as a maintenance free vehicle. Buying these big beasties, you have to be willing to keep up with maintenance to keep them reliable, and afford the cost of doing so. Good Luck, TomC |

Thanks to all. The problem was the air shut off valve. We have bypassed the valve (turned it so it doesn't hit the shut off switch. We will track it down from there. thanks again gene and audrey |
