I have had excellent performance from BridgeStone Steer Tires. I am on my Second set tire R280. First set aged out, no wear, now running them on my bogies, no cracks, but were 8 years old. I put on about 10,000 a year on my Eagle 05/10 Prather

I just put on Yokohamas and really like them. It isn't one of your 2 choices but something to look at if you exapnd your options.

I installed TOYO M122 11R22.5 14 ply steer tires three years ago and liked them so much I bought four more. They are all position tires so I can rotate them. I don't know what M147s are but I remember checking on them. They are probably steer only.

I am not being facetious here...promise...but, I note the comments above about "liking" tires......"performance" I understand...I think. However, with such few miles that "we" put on these huge tires, how can one really tell if they "like" them?

My question is: For what reason(s)?....Gus, Kevin, give me some insight....Please??? :-)

Thanx

Either should work well. After being in the sales side of trucks for 9 years and learning much about tires, I will only use Michelin. They are the fore runners of all tire technology, make the best and safest tires. They are also the most expensive. But I figure, what's you safety worth? I have Michelin XZE's on my bus and BFGoodrich on the steers of my truck (like XZA1). Good Luck, TomC

I replaced Toyo's with Yokohamas on the advice of a friend. So far they are quiet, good riding and haven't shown any bad habits like seam following. They have a good reputation. So do the Toyo's. If it was between General and Toyo, I would choose Toyo. I think Michelin is probably the best though. I hear good things about Cooper so they might be another option.

RC,

They are not high priced, they ride well, they are not noisy, they look good and I have had no problems whatsoever.

Does that help?

I have Toyo's had six brand new now have just under 20K on them, one inside dual blew a hole the size of your head a year ago. Had nothing showing on the tire of prior damage. Scared the hell out of me and the semi passing me.
Tire was replaced by seller with no known reason for blowing. I had Toyo's on my BBird and same there very good tires, in six years all weather checked and seller replaced all six for nothing.
All of that long story for what its worth. Larry
Also I get to pick up the repaired genny tomoro. Seems da boss wants to go now, so no genny slide, Oh Well.

" However, with such few miles that "we" put on these huge tires, how can one really tell if they "like" them?

Different tires and different patterns will operate differently.

I wore out a set of aggressive "any position" tires used as steers.

The replacements are street front steer tires , which are quieter , return to center easier , and smoother .

Don't go as far north on gravel roads in Canada, so streets on the front are OK, for now.

Most folks simply buy on price , any brand they have heard of.

All I use on everything I have are Michelins;the car versions consistently use almost no weight to balance. Yes, they are expensive. Some will not like them, some won't spend that much money, some have gotten excellent service from _ _ _ _ _ _ _ and poor service from _ _ _ _ _ _ (fill in the blanks). You might consider Bandag retreads for the rear; they are of pretty good quality. I don't know if they sell our size though.

Fast Fred Whether you know it or not I have driven enough different vehicles and tires to know if I like them and are good for me. A tire does not have to be expensive to be good, I am sure more than one will agree with what I have
said. 4905 Larry
I do believe they were asking opinions from all.

Larry....I ask again....WHY...do you like them...and WHY are they "good" for you?...criteria, etc...we understand your English, but WHY?....FF is just making comments on logic.... and so am I. :-)

Hi Gus,

Those Toyo tires sound good. What are they running with installation?

Thanks,

I got two in '05 and the last four in June '07 which cost approximately $300 each, but tire prices have jumped a lot since then.

There is nothing documented that I know of that says any brand is any better than another. There are lots of opinions though.

I bought these because the dealer said they are his best seller and the "all position" rating allows them to be rotated.

Hi Gus,

That sounds about what I figured. I was quoted $800 for steering tires about a year ago. They were 14 ply but I'm not sure of the brand. There is someone on another bus nuts forum who said he got an entire set in Eastern Kansas for 2 grand. I'm in south central NM so will look in the El Paso area. Anybody around that area who can recommend a place to me?

Thanks,
Kat

Kathy...Im in Las Cruces(Mesilla Park). The Goodyear truck facility on Motel Drive had some last I checked..about $100, as I recall. They were takeoffs...good price.

Might also ask Wes Rintelin at Border international on South Valley. Not sure if they have Toyo.

Hi RC,

Thanks for the tip! These are new tires? I have been very stongly advised to only use new, not retreads on the front. I am at Elephant Butte Lake so not very far away. Would you happen to know any phone numbers?

Randi,

I just happened to read in a trucking magazine today about Toyo M147s. It said they are a new model introduced just last year and are all position, now I know why I hadn't heard of them before, they came after I bought mine!
