Has anyone used black vinyl on windows to black them out? I put a new driver's side windshield in and want to black out the upper portion. The old one looks like there was vinyl applied to it, but I have heard some concern about it cracking the windshield from excess heat. Any thoughts?? |

Why not check with an automotive window shop and see if there is a product designed for that purpose? I suspect that vinyl will go bad sooner than later. FWIW Glenn |

Hi Grant, Vinyl has been applied to the top portion of every vehicle we have owned over the past twenty years. We measure from the top of the glass down to the highest point reached by the windshield wiper and use that mark as the lower limit. Our reasoning is that if the wiper covers enough area to be considered safe by the vehicle manufacturer, then various enforcement folks should (?) agree. Not once have we had a crack in the glass nor, have we ever heard of one attributable to the vinyl. Gary |

Thanks Gary , that's exactly what I thought but was second guessing. I think I'll apply it on the inside to prevent it from getting damaged from road grime etc. Grant |

They make electric sun visors that are black vinyl that you can run up and down according to level of sun in your eyes. Not cheap, but a fantastic accessory.I think it is the best item I bought. Especially nice when driving directly into sun. Also have the side version which is part screen mesh. manual or electric. http://www.carefreeofcolorado.com/rvmhin_smartvisor.asp?m=01010501 |

I went to a graphic shop and they cut one right on the spot and was reasonable. I can't afford one of those electric ones like CHESSIE [LOL] has on his. But If I could afford it I would buy Two, one for each side.On the mci I replaced the windshiels and measured the old piece and put it on and it will withstand the heat and sun. Gomer |

Older MCI's usually came from the factory with a black vinyl piece on the top of the driver's windshield. You should still be able to get it from MCI parts. It is way easier to put on before the glass is installed of course. You can use any vinyl but make sure of two things: It is black on the sticky side; and you apply it carefully and get no wrinkles or bubbles in it. Otherwise, you will be stuck with a horrible looking exterior windshield. Seen plenty of those. Good luck. |

Last windshield I had US Coach install, they were matching the blk band of the other side. They cleaned, masked and painted the inside of the glass. That portion is behind cabinets, but from the outside it looks perfect. Much easier and economical. Same as posted elsewhere.... |

Make sure you read the info about measurements, and they appear to only be available in 12 volt models, although I don't think that is a major problem. Man, they are great. |
