Remember the smell of your bus before you tore out the passenger bathroom? Made me sick to my stomach. I thought all that was over when i tore the entire thing out. Remodeling the bus with all new materials. The fresh wood smell. The glue. It smelled new.... Until.. I finally took it for a drive. Wow! The passenger bathroom smell came out of nowhere? Long gone was the smell of my new carpet. My new floors. My new everything. When does that smell go away of that old bathroom? Does anyone know what i mean? Im sure im not alone! Gag! |

You didn't blast the old area with pure bleach? Replace the flooring? Replace the insulation in that area? I sure would've. All that stuff holds in that nasty stink long after the bathroom is gone... Even my coach (before it burned) still had that funk in it... The old tank is still there, albeit in pieces... But I fully intend to remove it entirely... Now I have no choice but to replace the insulation and flooring too. Hell, even the old floor drain is still there. Please don't take my post as advice... More as a possibility to the problems... In my 4905, the old tank is located next to the rear engine hatch, under the bench... It's been cut up and pieces removed, but it is still there... And smells really bad when I lift up the wood covering the old bench and access panel... -Mac |

Woul i have known? I looked in the archives and didnt find anything about it. All tanks are gone. Even some of the floor but you know what i think/? The smell is imbeded in the duct work, wood, insulation, you name it. In time i guess, with plenty of arm and hammer will the smell go away. Hopefully. And so, you do know what i mean!? |

Yah... Nasty stink... Unpleasant... And yeah, it seems to permeate everything in the vicinity.. Heh... Though, with mine... you can't smell it over the fire damage. I'd rather smell the stink of the old bathroom rather than smoke damage. -Mac |

If the smell was not there before you drove it look at something else, like, is the toilet gate sealed with water? You could have negative pressure pulling the odor out of the black tank. We had the same problem, I had two vents for my black tank, one 3/4" hose, out the top of the tank and down to under the bay, the other one out the roof. We did not notice any smell while under way until the vent venturi on the roof broke off. I installed a new one and have not smelled "The Smell". I installed one made by Camco RV, it looks like a sideways wing, funny looking but it works. Are you sure the smell is not from all the crud that is in the OEM ductwork? We removed all the OEM duct work when we did our coach and were amazed at the amount of crud in those ducts. We still get an occasional "toilet smell" if conditions are just right when driving (wind speed & direction, coach speed, which windows, if any, are open). It is easy to create a negative pressure inside the bus and air has to come from somewhere to replace this negative pressure. Are you sure all your traps have water in them. If our coach sets for several months (rarely happens), the shower trap will dry up and we get smells when we start driving. As soon as we add a pour some water in the trap, no more smells (we have a combination black/grey holding tank). Jack |

Well, Duh! Jack said:"Are you sure all your traps have water in them. If our coach sets for several months (rarely happens), the shower trap will dry up and we get smells when we start driving. As soon as we add a pour some water in the trap, no more smells (we have a combination black/grey holding tank)." Our coach has been sitting for a few months, only going out about every two weeks for a trip to town. Since we moved into the house we haven't done anything to it. I was in it last week and noticed a horrible smell, I thought we'd had a stray cat or other animal inside that had marked it's territory. It makes sense now... the drains have evaporated the water and the tank is open to atmosphere. I'll go out today and fill the drains again. |

This is the smell of the old factory passenger restroom. It smell like the old chemicals they use. I havent used the bathroom that i installed yet. Still fresh. All the old tanks and any plumbing having to do with it as well. Dont get me wrong, it is not a stong smell. When we go for a drive, the negative pressure sucks that smell from somewhere. |

It is probably coming from any old duct work left in coach. I'm sure that they hosed them out from time to time. some of that deodorant cleaner would have gotten into the duct work. |

A bus driver tip: From Dollar General store get the orange spray bottle of Citrus Cleaner. ($1) Pour 1/2 in each waste tank. Works like a charm. |

might try getting your duct work vacuumed , if your finished inside & can't get at the vents, should not be expensive to do, just like getting house ducts vacumed. Quack |

You may want to see if your batteries are being OVER charged! Sometimes that can smell like old sewage or even new sewage for that matter! Happened to me once in our GMC. Thought I had a leak from the tank and it turned out to be overcharging! Could be something to look at! Ace |

When ever I get a bad smell I'm sure my drains need and a fresh shot of water in them. |

Well, FINALLY, I can feel superior about SOMETHING (not that I can claim any credit). Since my buddy Ralph ripped out the original lavatory - and everything remotely connected - I've had not one bit of odor from the 'back end.' After my buddy Howard installed my black/gray tank - as yet vented into the bin - I got some major 'yuckies' during travel, but Saran Wrap and rubber bands cured that. So long as I keep my P-traps full of agua, I get zero stink. Someday, maybe, I'll actually get a vent through the roof (or somewhere?), but as long as there's no stink I'm a happy camper. Not saying I recommend this solution but, as you all know, I'm runnin' on the cheap. Nellie |
