ok, I got another one... My AC (for thermo king AC unit 24v if that matters) has a belt driven compressor off the engine. on the AC compressor clutch (I know, because I recently had one fail on my car) has this sticker on it that says I must grease it for proper operation. but where, and how much? not in those little holes in the plate right? http://brightstoneriver.com/bus/grease.jpg (Message edited by WhiteBus on May 29, 2009) |

sorry for all the stupid questions, I am pretty much relying on google and this site for information, since I can't seem to find a manual for it. |

that is too funny pete, i just bought a can of bycycle chain lube for my automotive ac clutch. i about lost my mind when my mechanic did that to my clutch 5 years ago but it worked then and every year i treat it for about a week with some lube and it is good for a year following that. i never shared that little piece of my dark side with anyone because i just know it cant be the right thing to do but it always turns out to be the only thing to stop the squeaks. i replaced so many parts that first year so long ago trying to stop my truck from squealing when the ac was on. (yes to everyone who wants to ask was the belt tight. it was tight and even went to the stealership twice to have them say i need a new ac.) well a little of that spray lube once a year for the past 5 years and the squeal is gone and my 1990 jeep is still running on the original compressor and clutch with r 12 freezing my toes off. but as far as the grease you need i cant say what the right product is so i wont name any products. but i will tell you that on my jeep compressor the only thing i dont use is wd 40 just out of a habit of avoiding that product be cause my great grandpa used to say that it was crap but it had a good looking can. i look for anything that is a lube but not a lube that is designed to clean if you know what i mean. |

well heck i learned something to day based on the MSDS and other properties sheets. white lithium grease with molybdenum is what unirex is and yes spray it in those elongated slots. that is where i have been spraying mine. oh and for the record based on that bit of information from the sticker, i have never put the right product in the clutch. off to the hardware store tomorrow. |

Most parts stores carry a product called "belt dressing" that will usually remove the squeals that remain after properly tensioning belts - HTH |
