I have a NJ MC-9 with the (2) 8D batteries and a Vanner equalizer. The battery disconnect switch shuts down everything but there are 2 or 3? fused wires coming directly to the battery and connecting at the posts. They appear to be original equipment still covered with factory paint. What are they for? Why don't they go through the disconnect switch? When I disconnect the battery terminals and then reconnect them with these wires, I get a small spark when connecting the wire between the 2 batteries(+to-)
This leads me to believe there must be a draw on the batteries even with the switch off. (Batteries usually don't hold charge)
I was thinking I could check "da book" or I could spend a day tracing wires OR... I could post a question on this board and let the experts help. Any thoughts?

I have a NJ Eagle, and it had a 4 or 6 gauge wire connected to the battery disconnect along with the 4/0 battery cable, and it was fused with a 40amp fuse. This wire ran to the "Radio Box" in the forward bay, and powered NJT communications equipment. Hope this helps.

My Crown Super Coach has a voltage gage on the dashboard that is always hooked up and operating. This is even sooosss when everything else is turned off. I recharge every month or soosss.

Only problem is that the voltage on the dash board is always lower than the voltage at the batterry terminals thru my Fluke multimeter. When the engine is running both readings are correct.

I have an 83 MC9 also NJ Transit coach. When I looked at the coach the batteries were dead, ABC used the crash cart to jump the batteries and the coach fired right up. The batteries were great and when I arrived in Washington checked them and they tested fine. Within three weeks of the coach sitting the batteries were dead again. I disconnected all of the communications equipment including the little box under the driver seat with a little green light on it and the batteries have now held a charge without starting for over a month.

Thanks everyone. I will check the communication equipment to see if it is still energized with the battery switch off. I looked in the battery compartment again and there were 3 wires which were not switched off at the disconnect. At least now I know where to start looking.
