(Apologies in advance if this is supposed to go in the classifieds; I don't have an account over there, and this thing needs to happen today.)

Folks,

I have been offered a NovaKool RF8000 refrigerator/freezer, 2001 vintage, which operates on a Danfoss compressor that works on either 12 or 24 volts. These units run $1,700 new (yes, you read that right). (Check it out on Novakool's web site, http://www.novakool.com/products/two_doors/rfu6200_6800_8000_9000.htm -- scroll down to RFU8000.)

This unit is used and was removed from a yacht in working condition. Apparently, it got left outside in the rain, and now no longer works, probably due to water in one of the circuit boards.

The owner needs to unload this thing in the next day. If he can't, he's just going to dump it. He has offered it to any takers, either whole or in parts, for just the cost of crating and shipping, which he has estimated at around $100. He is in Miami.

I thought about taking the compressor for a spare, but really have no place to store it. Moreover, it would be a shame to rip this thing apart, because I am guessing that someone who is good with a meter can get it working again -- the compressor is probably fine. I would also guess that any cosmetic water damage can also be easily addressed.

Bottom line is that, IMO, you could get this for $100 and put maybe $200 or so into it and have a working unit. And, if you are doing an all-electric coach, particularly on a 24-volt chassis, the Novakool is definitely the bomb -- we have an RF7500 ourselves, and I would not trade it for anything. If you took it and could not make a complete working unit out of it, I would guess you could easily get your shipping money back just by selling the Danfoss compressor alone on eBay.

I am not posting this guy's contact information here, because he is very busy trying to get his boat ready for departure in two days, and I don't want to be the guy responsible for overloading his inbox. If you have any interest in this, please email me direct (slwelsh -at- gmail -dot- com) and I will hook you up.

Also note this is first-come, first-serve and so it may be gone by the time you respond. And, again, you will need to be ready to close the deal today or tomorrow, sight unseen (I will not ask him for photos or anything else that will take more of his time), since he has to ship it before he shoves off.

Don, just emailed you. I was trying to arrange for someone already in FL to just pick it up, but that fell through. You are now first in line. Send me your full contact info and I will pass it along to the guy with the fridge.

OK, folks, here is an update from Don, who was first on the list and has talked to the owner:

quote:

Just talked to [the owner]. He was thinking to remove the compressor and only ship that. The doors are removed and face plate was used for new install. I would need the whole thing to be useful to me.

He is checking on crating and shipping. The shipping estimate I have from FEDEX dock to dock [from FL to WA] without crating is $251, guessing at total weight and size of 150lbs and 3X3X5ft. He would need to crate and deliver to their dock. I would probably be in it for at least $350.

With his limited time and the distance involved it would probably be much simpler if a local busnut can grab it. Is there anyone else in the local area interested?

So, given this additional information, I will now ask if anyone in Florida wants to run down and get this today. Failing that, if anyone just wants the compressor, clearly he would do that, too (although I'm not sure the compressor can be removed without letting all the refrigerant out).

Email me off-list if interested.

The owner just sweetened the deal. He also took out a Splendide washer and that goes too. Must be some busnut in the Miami area that can use one or both.

He has had to pull a genset at the last minute and is hurting for time so pick up is probably the only option.

It's all free, Tim, but it needs to be picked up today or perhaps tomorrow morning.

How 'bout it -- anyone in S. Florida that can grab these?
