how many amps does your inverter draw when it's not being used to power appliances?

I would appreciate your inverter make/brand name too, if your power drain is really low.

Pete,

The better sine wave inverters have an "idling" or "search for load" feature, as mentioned above. They are great for energy savings in "standby" mode, and save you from turning them off when you stop using them.
Only problem is as Chuck mentions, no load output draws slightly more current, as in the load of a remote control TV, VCR, etc. The remote receiver in these is on all the time.
HTH,
George

my crappy inverter is drawing 2.5a on standby, and that's completely unplugged from all appliance. I knew that was wrong, because my other smaller inverter took less than .25amps.

I guess I should have checked it while I was able to return it.

so now I am shopping for another inverter. Thanks for the confirmation.

Ther is way more to inverters than standby amps.

The units ability to run the loads EFFICIENTLY is more important , and if needed the ability to run an AC motor counts too.

Google Home Power Magazine , their charts on a huge variety of inverters is posted FREE , you just have to find it .
