I have a chance to get a GM transit engine for reasonable cost, what else is required besides oil pickup/pump, oilpan? Joe. |

Joe, Most GM buses are left hand rotation, MCIs are right hand rotation. Rotation can be changed, but I do not what all the parts are that have to be changed. Jack |

Jack I know what you are saying, I don't have all of it either, but I am sure that in all the collected wisdom here I will get the answer. What transmission is that hanging off the back of your new engine shown in other post? Joe. |

It is the Allison 740 that was in our bus. I just cleaned it up and put a coat of paint on it while it was out. Jack |

Joe, before you buy the engine pull the pan and one rod cap to be sure the engine has a crank that can be reversed. If the oil holes are on an angle that is a one direction crank, if they are straight then the rotation can be changed using that crank. good luck and you are in for a lot of work |

Joe I have done a reversal about 3 years ago. Not hard but you have to have the cams, oil pump, idler gear and gear on the crank from the right turn engine to put in the left one. Give me a call and I can walk you through it. 905-873-8929 Bill |

Bill, We both know the starter has to be reversed, but my question is, in addition to everything else described, what about the water pump? Regards, George |

George The only thing that reverses is the crankshaft. The blower, fuel pump, cams stay the same rotation in both engines. The water pump is driven off the cam so it doesn't have to be changed. You have to change the oil pump as it is driven backwards when you reverse the crankshaft. I had a long talk with Joe on the phone today and I feel he is quite capable to change the rotation if he decides to. He has all the tools to do it and a doner right hand turn engine for the needed parts. Bill |

I saw a Mack run backwards once. Looks like a good way to clean your air filter. |
