Looking for ideas on where to find a salvage( Kenworth or other) truck grille (good condition) to use as a "grille" for an opening in the trunk of our coach for generator air.

Opening will be +- 24" square....any Ideas? Custom made is PROHIBITIVE>>>>can't believe what they want for those things at a junk yard...of which we have few here in the third world...all goes south to our across the border neighbors.

Open to suggestions...prefer horizontal bars....chrome if possible, but not mandatory.

Thanx

I have been looking at home depot.

they have a metal vent cover that looks quite doable, they are white, metal, and have slats attached to outer frame that can be mounted flush with the side panel.

Nice looking but pricey

Probably a a bunch much cheaper in Juarez.

Hi R.C. -

My friend Ralph Peters - who did so much work on my interior - used a rubber coated (dark green, as I recall) steel mesh material on his overhead storage doors. Rust resistant, looks very nice and affords plenty of ventilation. I can get you in touch if you want?

Another thought: How about the A/C condenser door of any older MCI? It would be close to the right size and all stainless steel.

Or - a shot in the dark here - the grille off an old Volvo (the car, not the truck). Sort of square and, I'd guess, about the right size too.

Just some thoughts.

How about perforated steel, usually not chrome plated, but should be readily available and relatively inexpensive. Then dress it up with bars as desired.

Regarding the truck grilles, you don't need the whole thing so don't buy one of those replacements. Go to a truck body shop and see what they might have in the junk pile.

Re Juarez....30 killed execution style last weekend...6 Tuesday...we stay on our side :-( :-( :-).

Even so, it came across to El Paso last week!

I don't go any closer to the border than necessary...stray (?) projectiles flying about everywhere.

Thanx for the thoughts and ideas. I have a small one mounted..for years..but don't like it. We are about to have the coach painted so want to upgrade a bit...but not to the tune of several hundred dollars! :-)

I've always liked the concept Land Rover had years ago. The front engine grill was easily removeable so that you could cook on it over an open fire in the Outback. Perhaps you could find something at a BBQ/Gas Grill parts place. Plus, if you have a Detroit, you'd never have to worry about spraying it with PAM.

Do you want a wide open grill or something with louvers. IBP may be able to make something for you. Call me @1-800-468-5287 x232 or email me at skolb@ibpindustries.com

Thanx to both....I would like a "nice looking" louvered (preferably movable louvers) grille...not too big...about 20 x 20, if I had my rathers.Could be painted but chrome or Aluminum would be preferred.

Steve.. I would like to take you up on your offer, but am just afraid it would be cost prohibitive for me. I don't need anything fancy...just reasonably "nice", not cheap looking, on a new paint job in the middle of the rear (trunk) door...(one piece door). This is a Crown Supercoach with the generator square in the middle of the back "bay"...and the grille would be mounted in the "middle" fo that door.

I will send an email with a pic or two of what I have to consider.

Many thanx for the input from all. :-)

I will email a drawing of a louver that is 18.5" x 18.5". Let me know if something like this will work.

I recently had a generator door / vent fabricated at a local sheet metal shop for $200.

This genset rolls out on a slide and vents a 12.5K Yanmar / Kohler.

Single piece cover constructed out of rolled steel. The luvers were punched thus minimizing vibration. Welded angle steel brackets to mount to the slide. Photos at:

Steve...I've sent a couple of emails to you...if you did not get them, let me know...if you did, ....well, what can I say? :-)

And thanx William G.....I'm going to check it out locally...didn't want to go that much, but may have to. The coach goes to the costumery on the 7th and I need to have that done prior to that date. :-) :-)
