I see this light that lights up sometimes on my dash. http://brightstoneriver.com/bus/dash.jpg it's the red light on the bottom right, with the words "STOP" in it. Has something to do with the stop sign maybe? I checked all the signal lights, but I didn't see any that were out. any ideas? (Message edited by WhiteBus on June 18, 2009) |

Should come on when your service brake or parking brake is applied - HTH |

so you are saying it's directly related to the application of brakes? the pix is when the engine is off, and the key turned to on. sometimes it comes on, othertimes it does not. |

I'm just guessing, but since the symbol is the same shape as the one in your tach, I'd say it's the stop engine light(SEL) |

I agree. Stop Engine Light, SEL -- it should come on when ignition is on but before cranking. If it comes on while driving, you have only seconds before the engine will automatically shut down. You probably have an Engine Override switch (momentary) someplace, which will override the auto shutdown long enough to stop safely. -Sean http://OurOdyssey.BlogSpot.com |

strange that it comes on sometimes, and not the other times. It must have a short or something. what is the function of SEL? I mean, I would think that it's obvious that the engine is on or off, do you really need a light to tell you that? |

Pete, Like the post above indicated it warns you that the computer is getting ready to shut the motor down because it senses something wrong like overheat, lack of oil pressure etc. |

OOps - I didn't see the Parking Brake light on your panel - My dash has the same marking and activates with the application of the service brake - Easy to see if that's it the next time you take it out - HTH |

cummins 5.9 ISB. I don't know what symbol that is. judging by the logic of similar symbols, I guess that one also has something to do with engine... the light on top of the "stop" light corresponds to the symbol on the transmission temp gauge, so I guess that has something to do with the tranny. |

I spent a little time searching the net with no good results. There is a campaign to standardize instrument panel symbols but it is not yet in place. The one thing that does seem to be standard is that amber is a caution and red is urgent, so "Stop Engine" seems likely. |
