Howdy
I pick up my new crown next month and have some questions I wasnt able to find searching herein.
When I get out to the bus in SO CA, I want to change the oil to be sure it has 40st in it before my long drive back to Flagstaff. If the drain on the very lowest part of the engine and easy to locate? Is thre only one oil filter and where is it located? Does anyone know the part number for the filter? Ditto on the fuel filter.
Any advice?

thanks again

Mark

Mark the place where you got the bus might just do the work for you with you paying for the oil and filters. ask when this service was done last and you may want to run it to Flagstaff on the old oil just change the filter as that is the main thing and when you get home then when it is stil a warm engine drain the oil and change the filter again[they are not to expensive] now while you have the bus sitting you will have clean oil during the time you are working on it and not have to change out the oil or worry about it when you start some times during conversion. this will take the effects of used oil out of the engine as it is the acids created with used oil that can cause trouble later on. good luck and rember it is your bus so and do it your way, mel 4104

Hi Mark,
The oil pan and drain are easy to see. My bus is a 1975 and has a Detroit 6-71. Almost all Crowns look alike but they made lots of little changes. I have no idea what your filter setup is but I would be happy to get the numbers for the fuel and oil filters from mine. My bus has a total of 5 filters. I do think you'll be shooting in the dark. If they have been driving it I would grab a couple of gallons of oil and hit the road. It will all be easier at home. If it's been sitting then I would change the oil and all filters before leaving.

The source of all Crown knowledge are the: http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/crowncoachjunkies/

Good luck and if you want I will explain my filter setup and give you the numbers.

when u crawl under there you will see TWO pans hanging down with drain bolts on the bottom of them.

make sure you drain the one directly under your engine and NOT the one under the transmission.

i know this can be deceiving for on my detroit the pan for the tranny fluid hangs down and a good 8 inches more than the oil pan and is right next to it so the oil pan is kinda hidden with all the grease/grime buildup

i would take advantage of luvrbus' offer for the main reason that while you are there you can ask questions (about other stuff) untill hes sick of talking about busses but that probably would take a week or so ;-p

Fantasitc busses - I love them. I almost bought a Crown but it had serious engine issues so I passed, but there is a good chance I will buy one in the next two weeks. They are so simple and like a sports car in the mountains. Do you have 1 or 2 rear axles?

Good luck, and have fun!

I think that Kasse Weikel must be referring to an automatic Tranny.
I have a Fuller 5 speed and there is no other pan other than the oil pan. If you can't tell the difference between the engine and the tranny, you should probably let someone else do the work for you. You'll have time to learn all about it later.
