How much horsepower does a 6V71 have and if you overhauled it how much could you increase it to it is in a mci5c with a 740 automatic like to have about 250 to280 hp.

If it's overhaul time for the 6V71, you might seriously consider a Silver 6V92TA, which can be bumped up to 350 hp.

Physically, the 92 is almost the same size as the 71, you'd just have to replumb the turbo for clearance, and swap out the radiators for ones with a couple additional rows, plus a smaller blower drive pulley, in order to handle the additional heat generated by the higher HP motor..

Very doable, and VERY worthwhile in the 5C.

(Oh, in answer to your original question, w/o a turbo, the spec book only shows 238 hp w/ C65 injectors. No 6V71 turbos listed, only for the inline series.)

Gary-I have a 6v71 and changed the injectors to n75s
It smokes a little but i did get more power.
The 6v92 is a good idea if your going to rebuild.
