Bud - TTBOMK, Detroit never built the 6-71 with an aftercooler for the turbo models, which would make it a "6-71TA" like you posted. Only 6-71Ts were available. It's a good swap into a 4104, but make sure you get a LH engine, otherwise you'll end up with four speeds in reverse and one go forward! Also, you cannot just slap a turbo on a non-turbo engine - there are quite a few internal differences between them. The turbo will have to be relocated within the engine compartment, there isn't enough clearance in the stock configuration. Most folk mount it over the transmission on custom brackets. The only other real concern is cooling. You'll have to make sure the cooling system is in excellent condition, and possibly replace the radiator with a thicker-cored unit. This gives performance similar to a stock 4106, except for top speed, that's hampered by the different bevel gear ratio in the V-drive. HTH, RJ PD4106-2784 Fresno CA |
