Were off to Surgis for the bike rally tomorrow, so I just wanted to say thanks to all for the help once again. If it wasn't for you guys, we wouldn't be able to take the bike to trailer week. First year in 10 that we have trailered and my wife is really looking forward to going since her neck injury still bothers her on long rides. Thanks Grant | ||

Grant, Let us know about the trip and where you stayed. If you don't have reservations somewhere, don't expect to camp close to town (without being gouged). Have a great trip. | ||

Hey, a motorcycle chat...great! How about I bring up a subject that I have an interest in (again) has anyone figured out how to haul motorcycles in or under a coach? I would prefer to stay away from a rear mounted carrier...please! | ||

Put hydraulic lifts on the floor of one of your bays, there was an Eagle in arcadia a few years ago that the floor of one of the bays lowered to remove the bike then back up when the bike was put back, maybe jack Conrad remembers who it was. | ||

Even with the floor lowered to load the bikes, once the floor is raised there still not enough room in the ones I've seen...please help! | ||

Hey get onto the busnut busface thing ian made for us. We have a motorcycle group as well as Eagle,Mci, GM, Prevost etc. I have seen smaller bikes mounted on the front and rear bumpers, i used to dissasemble my 750 to fit it into the bays (did that once!)Also seen the wheelchair lifts modified and ramps etc. I am either going to get a combi trailor/dolly (big $) with the bike in front of the truck/car or maybe load the bike in the pickup and towit backward with the rear wheels on a dolly. | ||

check the busnuts video from the southeast rally for two ways to carry bikes. go to "huggy bear" one way 1963 econoline van carrys 2 bikes in the dry and can drive it when there. second way s10 chevy truck carries 2 bikes and can drive it when there. also check out the 1972 750 honda capt rons favorite bike | ||

The famous "Odyssey" bus we have all seen has a motorcycle bay in the bottom bay. There's one other possibility. I have a RICON wheelchair lift that has (700lb capacity) that can lift a small motorcycle into the living room. It requires a little modification, but it does its job rather well. If you have a 1000lb dressed cruiser it probably will not work. | ||

Grant, First, I hope ya'll have a safe enjoyable trip. The Eagle that Bill was referring to was Prather Ellis' Eagle. The Eagle has a taller baggage compartment than our MCIs and a different type of frame that allows cutting the baggage floor loose and installing a lift mechanism. | ||

...taller bays of a prevost H series or MC-6 or that old GMC scenic cruiser; combined with a two wheeled vehicle that can easily have its height reduced ( ie... removable/turn-able handle bars. windscreen) seems to be more practicable than re-engineering a large monoqote structure such as our lower bus frames. Not suggest you divorce your existing two wheeler , but maybe get her a new friend ! Don't enjoy bikes anymore, as my balanced is by & large I fake it with my damaged seeing skills. | ||

My motorcycle will fit in my 4905 baggage bay upright. Of course it is only a Honda Trail 70 clone. | ||

I'll bet a couple of wide glides would fit in your cyclopes rear bay of the leading section. Even if the gov. will only issue her road permits for hollywood productions. So when are we going to get some pics of that beast, for the archives. I hope before "the big bus II" is released, not that I wouldn't spend my last fiver to go to the theatre for that flick. - ( I keep getting you & the safety nawzi mixed up ; sorry to joke the wrong joke on the wrong jokers J&R, wasn't trying to tease a fess up out of you's, just a honest mistake ) | ||

First of all , thanks for your good wishes and all the brain storming about how to get a bike in a bus. When people hear that we are building a bus the first question is , what are you doing to get the bike in it? Anyway we had an excellent trip, bus worked great. The fuel mileage wasn't quite as good as our previos trip but I believe it had to do do with wind, temps and hills, all in all it was alright though. Filled teh bus up with water before we left, we showered, washed dishes etc everyday and still had 1/3 tank left when we got home, worked great. Didn't feel like coming home. Chuck, we have a standing reservation at a campground close to the chip ever since they opened, kind of nice to know there is always a spot for us without paying too much. Grant |
